Thunder & Lightning Twin 50s on Deck at Scotia Speedworld Friday August 22, 2019 Regional The Toursec Thunder & Lightning will take centre stage at Scotia Speedworld this week as they do battle for 50 grueling laps in the Toursec Twin 50’s. Joining Atlantic Canada’s best four-cylinders are the Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros and the Strictly Hydraulics Legends. Grandstand gates open at 5:00pm with CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series action slated for 7:00pm. The Toursec Lightning division has been turning heads this season, not only for the increasing car count but for the great racing product on track. The division has seen five different winners in nine races with Chevy MacDonald (Stewiacke) making history last Friday night by becoming the first driver in a Chevrolet Cobalt to win a feature. “Rational” Richard Drake (Halifax) leads the way in the point standings over Matthew Barkhouse (Dartmouth) with four scheduled races to go. Drake has three feature wins on the year while Barkhouse won the first Toursec 50 contested back in June. Steve Matthews (Bedford) has three feature wins and Marshall Bezanson (Oldham) also own a feature win this season. The Toursec Thunder point chase was turned on its head during the Toromont Cat 250 weekend when three-time champion Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) had an early exit with motor issues in his Civic. Jesse Deveau (Greenwood) took the top spot in the standings, leading June’s Toursec 50 winner and reigning champion Darren Flemming (Shubenacadie) by 15 points. Matthews is just two points behind Flemming. Five drivers have gone to victory lane in the seven races contested so far for the class in 2019. Deveau and Flemming each own two victories with Matthews, former multi-time Toursec Thunder champion Tim Webster (Beaver Bank) and Taylor McLean (New Glasgow) each taking one feature victory each. Last time out, it was McLean scoring his first career feature victory at Scotia Speedworld. Admission for the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series is $15 for adults, $5 for youth (8-15yrs), children seven and under are free all season at Scotia Speedworld!
