Wet Forecast Cancels Saturday Show at Petty

(Aug 28 at 10:10 a.m. ) – The show scheduled for Saturday, August 29 at Petty International Raceway has been washed out due to heavy rain in the forecast for Saturday evening and into Sunday. With several teams traveling from outside of the Province of New Brunswick to compete at this event, the call was made early to cancel the upcoming racing action for the weekend.

Fans and teams should watch the Petty International Raceway social media channels and website for news in regards to any rescheduled date for the Petty Race Night.

The Stage is Set for Saturday Show at Petty Int’l Raceway

Southeastern New Brunswick will once again be filled with the sounds of stock cars as Petty International Raceway contests the sixth event of their 2020 season on Saturday evening. A full card of five stock car divisions will take to the track in search of the checkered flag and the glory that goes along with the thrill of victory. The AE McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman, Street Stock, Mister Transmission Mini Stock, Leisure Days RV Bandolero and Kings County Performance Women on Wheels will entertain fans on Saturday evening. Racing action on Saturday goes green at 6 pm.

The AE McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman feature at the 56th Jones Auto Body River Glade International was nothing short of spectacular. The evening saw its share of hot tempers and sparks flying but the end result was a familiar one with Jordan Veinotte (Porters Lake, NS) capturing his second International trophy. The pace of Veinotte was torrid as he only left two other cars on the lead lap in that event – former Mister Transmission Mini Stock champion Deven Smith (Lakeside, NS) and Marcel LeBlanc (Bouctouche, NB). Justin Beers (Moncton, NB) challenged Veinotte late but a lapped car took the No. 3 out of contention as the laps wound down.

With Veinotte winning the last two Late Model Sportsman features at Petty Raceway, the field will have to be on their game should they want to unseat the 2019 track champion. Brady Creamer (Miramichi, NB) and Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) raced to victories earlier in 2020 but those fields did not feature the No. 11 Veinotte’s Truck and Auto Ford in the field. A stout field of local contenders including former champion Kenny MacKenzie Jr (Salisbury, NB), Courtney O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB), Koven Lewis (Salisbury, NB), Nick Cudmore (Petitcodiac, NB) and Neal Crawford (Salisbury, NB) will each be looking to add their name to the list of 2020 winners on Saturday.

When he is on his game, Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB) has been difficult to beat in the Street Stock division. Cormier has won the last two Street Stock events at Petty Raceway and will step up Saturday evening looking for the hat trick. The team has been tough to beat across the province, as they went to victory lane one week ago at Speedway 660 when Wayne Smith drove the No. 68 car to the win.

The last Street Stock event at Petty Raceway back on August 1st saw strong runs turned in by Brandon Albert (Summerside, PE) and Brandon Carter (Moncton, NB). Albert posted a top ten finish in the Street Stock 100 presented by Westwood Estates in July while the third place finish for Carter was the first race for him in his No. 65 entry.

Two Street Stock cars are expected to make their debut on Saturday. Kenny MacKenzie Jr. will return to the Street Stock division in the No. 85 car as he does double duty with his Late Model Sportsman car. Mike Weagle (Steeves Mountain, NB) will debut his new Street Stock car on Saturday in his first Petty International Raceway start of the 2020 season.

The Mister Transmission Mini Stocks has continued to be one of the most competitive divisions at Petty International Raceway on a regular basis. Three races have produced three different winners, including JR Lawson (Shubenacadie, NS), Ryan McKnight (Sussex, NB) and Rob Poirier (Irishtown, NB). Those feature victories have not come easy as they have been challenged frequently by the likes of Trevor Smith (Lakeside, NS), Mike Edwards (Penobsquis, NB), Cody Byrne (Orwell Cove, PE), Ryan Crawford (Salisbury, NB), Chris Garnett (Havelock, NB) and Travis Keefe (Gold River, NS), just to name a few. With the deep field expected to haul to Petty Raceway on Saturday, the Mister Transmission Mini Stock feature will be action packed to say the least.

In the continuing theme of parity, the Leisure Days RV Bandolero division has seen three different winners in as many races. Teagan Dempsey (Fredericton, NB), Gage Gilby (Enfield, NS) and Nathan Langille (Coldbrook, NS) have each carried a checkered flag in the last three events. Several drivers have come close to being a part of that list, including Kelsea Lewis (Salisbury, NB), Tanton Wooldridge (Summerside, PE) and Chase MacKay (Bear Cove, NS), each of whom have at least one podium run in the last three events. In the Leisure Days RV Beginner Bandolero class, Chase Livingston (Springhill, NS) has had the winning combination for victory lane, taking home the last three races he has entered at Petty Raceway.

The Kings County Performance Women on Wheels will race their third race of the 2020 season. Hannah Gallant and Ashley Campbell have victories to their resume in 2020 thus far and the division continues to grow every race. Nine drivers took part in the last event on August 1st.

Grandstand admission prices for Saturday’s event are $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 18, while children seven years of age and under will be admitted free. Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Pit gates open at 1pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 4pm with racing getting underway at 6pm. Camping is available on a first come, first serve basis.
