Pro Stock 150 Headlines Saturday Show at Petty July 2, 2020 Regional RIVER GLADE, NB – The sights and sounds of Super Late Models will return to the Maritime stock car racing community Saturday evening at Petty International Raceway with the Brycon Construction “Bubble Buster” 150. The A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman will compete in a 100-lap feature in their first true test of extended distance racing and the Legend cars will see their first green flag in the Maritimes for 2020. The pro stock entry list is bursting with several major race wins and championships represented. Two-time Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour champion and multi-time Toromont CAT 250 winner Cole Butcher (Porter’s Lake, NS), reigning Mike Stevens Memorial winner Jonathan Hicken (Brudenell, PE) and Speedway 660 250 champions Ryan Messer (Harvey), Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton), Craig Slaunwhite (Terence Bay, NS), Lonnie Sommerville (Barnesville) and Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) along with former IWK 250 champion Darren MacKinnon (Charlottetown, PE) only begin to scratch the surface of potential winners on Saturday evening. Storylines abound throughout the field. Cory Hall (Jolicure) enters this weekend’s event with a new Pro Stock entry. Nicholas Naugle (Dartmouth, NS) began 2020 with a win at New Smyrna Speedway (FL) at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing back in February. Chris Hughes and his Brackley Beach, Prince Edward Island-based team have been busy preparing a new Clattenburg Racing Fabrication chassis for battle this season. Gary Elliott (Truro, NS) has made the move back home from Ontario in the off-season and will begin his first full season of Pro Stock competition in the Maritimes with a trip to Petty International Raceway for the Brycon Construction “Bubble Buster” 150. The Late Model Sportsman competitors in New Brunswick got a leg up on their counterparts from outside provincial borders last week with a 69-lap feature at Petty Raceway. Brady Creamer (Miramichi) took away the victory over a hard-charging Justin Beers (Moncton) last Saturday. Both have established themselves as the early favorites heading into the 100-lap feature. Courtney O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) won her heat race last week and led the opening portion of the feature before Creamer made the move during the long green-flag run which kicked off the event. O’Blenis will be joined by her sister Alexandra (Boundary Creek) as they try to bring home the first-place hardware to the O’Blenis Motorsports stable. The Legend division will also make their Maritime debut for 2020 on Saturday. With a new Hoosier tire for 2020, several teams will be entering Saturday with a blank sheet of paper in their setup book. Among the drivers signaling early indications that they will be making the haul to Petty Raceway on Saturday include Darren Sherwood (Cambridge-Narrows), reigning Street Stock track champion Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois), 2018 Maritime League of Legends Tour champion Shelby Baker (Fall River, NS), Owen Mahar (Hubley, NS), Kody Quinn (Sydney, NS) and Dylan Dowe (Bedford, NS), among others. While early registration was not officially taken for the A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman or Legend divisions, it is expected both fields will have big fields when they hit the track on Saturday evening. Following the success of last week’s “Kick the COVID-19 Pandemic” race day, extra grandstands have been brought in on the pit side to accommodate fans for Saturday’s event. Fans and teams are reminded to practice social distancing throughout the Brycon Construction “Bubble Buster” and a complete list of updated COVID-19 restrictions in regards to Petty Raceway can be viewed online at www.PettyRaceway.com. Grandstand admission prices for Saturday’s event are $30 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 18, while children seven years of age and under will be admitted free. Pit admission is $35 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Pit gates for competitors open at 12pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 4pm with racing getting underway at 6pm. Camping is available on a first come, first serve basis. There will be an open practice for competitors on Friday evening from 5pm to dusk. Cost for the Friday night practice is $10 per person.
