Petty to Close 2016 Season Saturday With Postponed Show October 6, 2016 Regional RIVER GLADE, NB – Petty International Raceway will send off the 2016 season on Saturday with a racing card and recognition ceremony to officially crown track champions in five racing divisions. The racing action gets underway at 12 p.m. on Saturday. The show is to make up the lost racing from the Mike Stevens Memorial weekend that was washed out on September 25. The highlight this Saturday is expected to be the Mike Stevens Memorial Limited Late Model 75. While heat races were run and the 15-car starting grid has been set, teams that did not compete on September 25 are welcome to run the 75-lap feature but will be required to start at the rear of the field. Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake, NS) and Kenny MacKenzie Jr (Salisbury) won the two heat races contested in September and will start from the front row on Saturday. The Limited Late Model race is Maritime Sportsman cars running with used Hoosier 1070 Pro Stock tires. The final 12 laps of the Mini Stock 50 from the Mike Stevens Memorial Weekend will be completed to kick off the show on Saturday. The 2015 Mister Transmission Mini Stock champion Mike Weagle (Salisbury, NB) leads the race ahead of Dave Matthews (Kennetcook, NS) and Rob Poirier (Irishtown), Chantel Ackles and J.R. Lawson (both from Shubenacadie, NS) in the top five. The Mister Transmission Mini Stock division will run an additional 25-lap main feature on the afternoon. While only drivers who competed on the Mike Stevens Memorial weekend are welcome to compete in the remaining 12 laps of the first feature, all Mini Stock competitors from around the region are welcome to compete in the added 25-lap feature. The Atlantic Modified Tour will run the second-last round of their touring series Saturday. Tom Betts (Doaktown) comes in as one of the hottest drivers on the open wheel circuit with two wins in recent events, while Justin Beers (Moncton) has a healthy 39 point advantage in the championship standings over Joe Hoyt (Waasis) and multi-time series titlist Mike “Sparky” Raeburn (Hampton) with two races remaining in their season. The Leisure Days RV Bandolero and Extreme Window and Entrance Systems Street Stock divisions have both been added to the card for Saturday. The Bandolero class will run a 20-lap feature while the Street Stock class will contest a 30-lap feature. Both races will be non point affairs. The 50-lap Legends feature originally scheduled for September 25 has been canceled and will not be made up. Following the racing action, the top five in points in the Petty International Raceway house divisions will be honored in a brief recognition ceremony on the front straight. In addition, the winners of the Petty Fan Choice Awards for the Most Popular Driver and Best Looking Car for each class will also be announced. Fans voted for their favorite drivers via PettyFanChoice.com for the two awards for each division. The Women on Wheels division, who do not race on Saturday, will also be recognized with their top five in points and Petty Fan Choice winners. Petty International Raceway invites fans, teams, drivers, crews and staff to stick around after the racing action for music and karaoke. Everyone is welcome to join in by the front gate to celebrate the racing season for 2016 following the racing and awards on Saturday. Those with rain checks from the Sunday, September 25 rain out are reminded that this is the only event those rain checks can be used for.
