Petty Int’l Raceway Celebrates 2015 With Awards Banquet November 23, 2015 Regional PETITCODIAC, NB – Petty International Raceway dropped the curtain on the racing season Saturday night at the Petitcodiac Legion in Petitcodiac, New Brunswick with their annual Awards Banquet. Over 130 drivers, team members, officials, sponsors, and fans took part in the celebration of the 2015 season, which included honoring four new track champions of the River Glade, New Brunswick oval. Memramcook, New Brunswick’s Luc Bourgeois received the Petty International Raceway Sportsman division championship on Saturday night. Bourgeois, who also won the inaugural New Brunswick Short Track Challenge in 2015, went to victory lane at the LaFarge Aggregates and Concrete Season Opener on May 16th to kick off the season. In the five point races, Bourgeois had two wins and two second-place finishes en route to capturing his first Sportsman title since the facility re-opened in 2011. The Rodgers brothers of Smithtown, Andrew, and Matt, ended up tied for second place in the standings in their first full-time season at Petty International Raceway. Rookie Ken MacKenzie Jr was fourth with veteran driver Hubert “Bert” Cormier finishing in fifth. A total of 31 drivers competed in at least one Sportsman event at Petty International Raceway in 2015. It was a fight all season long in the CMax Paint and Body Shop Supplies Street Stock division, but when all the dust settled on a wild October 10th feature, it was Gary Tingley taking home the prestigious championship. Tingley, who made the move from the Sportsman division to the Street Stock class in 2015, edged out last year’s champion Ken MacKenzie Jr by three points with season finale winner Nick Cudmore only eight points behind in third place. Shawn Lewis and Bob Prosser rounded out the top five in the CMax Street Stock division. Mike Weagle emerged as the Mister Transmission Mini Stock champion in 2015 after a season that included two feature wins in the month of August. Rob Poirier, the Rookie of the Year in the class, finished second overall in the seven race series, just four points out of Weagle for the championship. Multi-time Nova Scotia Mini Stock champion Tim Webster, rookie Rob Boutilier and Patricia Taylor completed the top five in the standings for the Mister Transmission Mini Stocks. Ashton Tucker’s #32 team recorded the most feature wins of any team at Petty International Raceway as their four wins were enough to vault them to the Leisure Days RV Bandolero championship. In fact, Tucker never finished outside the top two in point paying races at the track en route to his first track championship on the high banked oval. “The Flying Frenchman” Michael Cormier edged out Nova Scotia drivers Josh Langille and Austin MacDonald in a fight to the final laps for the second place position in the standings. Nathan Blackburn turned in a fifth place performance in the Leisure Days RV Bandolero points chase. Mackenzie Jr (Sportsman), Nick Cadger (CMax Street Stock), Poirier (Mister Transmission Mini Stock) and Max Alward (Leisure Days RV Bandolero) were honored as the top rookies in their respective classes. The third annual Petty Fan Choice Awards were handed out Saturday night. Fans vote on PettyFanChoice.com for the Most Popular Driver and Best Looking Car in each of Petty International Raceway’s house divisions. Mackenzie Jr (Sportsman), Cudmore (CMax Street Stock), Logan Power (Mister Transmission Mini Stock) and Michael Cormier (Leisure Days RV Bandolero) were voted by the fans as the Most Popular Driver in each division. Laurie Cormier (Sportsman), Martin Landry (CMax Street Stocks), Taylor (Mister Transmission Mini Stock) and Tucker (Leisure Days RV Bandolero) picked up the Best Looking Car Awards for their respective classes. Petty International Raceway was also awarded the Tim’s Corner Motorsports Best of 2015 Fan Favorite Monthly Short Track.
