Night Racing Starts Saturday at Speedway 660 June 6, 2019 Regional GEARY, NB – The lights will come on at Speedway 660 this Saturday evening when the track contests their first night race of the 2019 season. After running the opening two events on Sunday afternoon’s, the third stock car racing event of the season at the Geary, New Brunswick oval will run on Saturday, June 8th at 6:30 pm. All four house divisions will be in action, including the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stocks, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman, DMR Auto Street Stocks, and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters. The Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters will headline the first Saturday night racing card of the season. The Sharp Shooters will take to the track for the first of two 50-lap features in the month of June. The 50-lap events test driver and machine in the extended distance event. With this division accustomed to running 20-lap features on a regular racing card, conserving tires and equipment will be just as important as racing those on the track. While Brody Levesque (Fredericton, NB) is the reigning champion of the Sharp Shooter 50, it will not be easy to repeat his win from last June. Last Sunday, 19 cars took to the track in hopes of parking their car in Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane. Matt Martin (Fredericton, NB) scored a popular victory ahead of Season Opener winner BJ Gillespie and Ryan Bernard. The division demonstrated lots of two and three wide racing, making it one of the most intriguing divisions to watch on a weekly basis at Speedway 660. Gillespie and Martin find themselves entering Saturday as the top two in Sharp Shooter points with Levesque, reigning champion Bryan Suttie (Keswick, NB) and the Allison Hall Racing car driven by Ryan Bernard in fifth. Twenty drivers have taken to the track in at least one event in 2019. Greg Fahey’s (St. Stephen, NB) win last Sunday in the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Pro Stock division feature puts him only two points back of Brent Roy (Hanwell, NB) leading into Saturday evening’s third race of the year. Matt Harris (Fredericton Junction, NB) sits third in a tight battle that sees Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB), Ian Rasmussen (New Denmark, NB) and Devin Snell (Saint John, NB) all within three points of the No. 87 car after two races. Consistency by Courtney O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) in the first two races of the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman season has put the youngster on top of the standings. The 2018 division runner up Curtis Collins (Saint John, NB) finds himself in familiar territory two races in, one point up on a tie for third that features the two race winners this year thus far in Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) and Richard Atkinson (Geary, NB). It is early in the season, but the quartet has built an 18 point margin on the rest of the field in two races with fifth place being held down by Robert Raynes. In two Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman races this season, the division has yet to see a driver score multiple feature podium finishes. The same can be said for the DMR Auto Street Stock division. Roger Slocum (Chipman, NB) won on the first weekend of racing but missed the podium on Kids Day with a fifth place run. Chris Hanley (St. Stephen, NB), who has a best finish of fourth in two feature races on 2019, is second in points leading into Saturday night with Courtney Barton (Minto, NB), reigning champion Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen, NB) and the Cashol Racing team car piloted by Randy Campbell (Saint John, NB) complete the top five early in the year. Just announced via social media, Speedway 660 will host an additional 50-lap Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters race on Sunday, June 30th at 4pm. The race will carry a total purse of over $3,500, making it one of the largest Four Cylinder purses in the Maritimes. Returning for 2019, children aged 15 and under will be admitted to the grandstands for free to every stock car event at Speedway 660.
