CONCORD, NC – Hurricane Matthew has forced NASCAR and Charlotte Motor Speedway officials to move the Bank of America 500 Sprint Cup Series race that was scheduled for tonight, to Sunday afternoon. The leading edge of the storm hit the Charlotte area Friday, also causing the Drive for the Cure 300 XFINITY Series race to be moved to Sunday, originally rescheduled for an 11 a.m. (ET) start. With the Sprint Cup Series race added to Sunday, the schedule has been revised for a 12 p.m. start for the Cup race and then, 45 minutes after its conclusion, the green flag will fly for the XFINITY Series race. The Cup race will be broadcast by NBC Sports and the XFINITY race by NBCSN (Canadian fans can view both races on TSN2); both races will also be broadcast on SiriusXM NASCAR Channel 90. Fans with tickets to the Cup race can stay for the XFINITY race and fans with XFINITY Series race tickets will be admitted following the conclusion of the Cup race. Heavy rain and strong winds have been battering the Charlotte area with no end in sight until this evening. Both South Carolina and Georgia have been hit hard by the Hurricane and many roads are still impassible which would make it impossible for a large percentage of the Charlotte Motor Speedway fan base to make it to the race if it were held tonight, combined with the fact it would be hard for officials to get the track race ready until late tonight. Sunday’s forecast is for sunshine and temperatures in the high 70s (F).
