Maritime Allstar Sportsman Series Set for Debut in ’22 December 15, 2021 Regional HALIFAX, NS – The inaugural season of the Maritime AllStar Sportsman Series (MASS) is set for 2022. Riverside International Speedway (James River, near Antigonish) will be its anchor track with three races planned for the historic high-banked 1/3-mile oval. Sydney Speedway (Sydney), Lake Doucette Motor Speedway (Salmon River, near Digby), and Centre for Speed (Shediac, NB) will also host the series with one race each. “We’re excited,” said Craig McFetridge, MASS owner, former co-owner at Petty International Raceway, and longtime Maritime motorsports sponsor. “When we heard the sportsman series was looking for new leadership we reached out to them and the racers and are extremely pleased with the result. We look forward to working with the tracks and teams to help grow this division in the Maritimes.” Preliminary indications show 20+ teams interested in the series including Maritime motorsports legend Frank Fraser (Shubenacadie) who has announced he will run at select events. MASS will headline the Friday night show on Riverside’s iconic IWK 250 weekend (July 21-23) with a $3k-to-win feature. The remaining race dates for the series will be announced as track schedules are finalized. MASS will be a continuation of the NAPA Sportsman Series that has been at Riverside for the past several years. While MASS will expand the schedule and race locations, its rules will be similar with slight changes to attract competitors from throughout the Maritime provinces. Rules and procedures will be announced early in the New Year – racers that wish to receive them should sign up for the MASS competitor newsletter at www.maritimeallstars.ca.
