RIVER GLADE, NB – Kenny Mackenzie Jr (Salisbury, NB) took home his first career Late Model victory at Petty International Raceway Saturday with the win in the Limited Late Model 75. The race was originally scheduled to run September 23 but postponed by weather. MacKenzie Jr. started on the pole and led wire-to-wire in the 75-lap affair. The battle for second was an intense one throughout the feature with Brady Creamer (Miramichi) finishing second over Ken MacKenzie Sr. (Salisbury). Oyster Bed Speedway Late Model Champion Chris Hughes (Brackley, PE) started 11th on the field to finish fourth ahead of Matt Maillet (Burton) in fifth. Twelve cars started the main event on Saturday that featured only two yellow flags and took less than 30 minutes to complete. Matthews led the final 12 laps from the restart to finish ahead of Logan Power (Riverview) and Patricia Taylor (Salisbury). Mike Weagle (photo by Ken MacIsaac) The Mister Transmission Mini Stocks also ran a 25-lap feature, won by Mike Weagle (Salisbury). Weagle had to rally back from a practice crash to take the win in the second feature of the day. Petty International Raceway track champion Tim Webster (Beaver Bank, NS) was second followed by Matthews. Matthews and Weagle won Mini Stock heats to qualify for the 25-lap feature. Craid Ward (photo by Ken MacIsaac) The Extreme Window and Entrance Systems Street Stocks saw track champion Craig Ward (Riverview) make a pass for the top spot over Brad MacLean (Miramichi) 13 laps into the 30 lap feature. MacLean finished second while Jeff MacInnis (Summerside, PE) held off a hard charging Destiny Enkel (Saint John) for the final podium spot. MacInnis and MacLean won the Street Stock Heats. Josh Langille (photo by Ken MacIsaac) Josh Langille (Coldbrook, NS) won the Leisure Days RV Bandolero feature in a photo finish over 2016 track champion Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois). Tom Betts (photo by Ken MacIsaac) Tom Betts (Doaktown) scored his second consecutive Atlantic Modified Tour victory at Petty International Raceway by winning a 50-lap feature. Kevin Bailey (Minto), who led many laps early, finished in second with Mike “Sparky” Raeburn (Hampton) in third. The pace by Betts was so torrid that only the top three finished on the lead lap.
