Hot Rod Classics Makes $12k Donation to IWK Foundation December 23, 2024 Regional DARTMOUTH, NS – In this season of giving, organizers for the Hot Rod Classics Vintage Race Car Series powered by Kimco are thrilled to announce a $12,000 donation to the IWK Foundation in support of the IWK Health Care Centre – the region’s largest children’s hospital. The funds were collected at fundraising events, through Hot Rod Classics merchandise sales, and include proceeds from Steele Volkswagen’s Jean Days in 2024. Steele Volkswagen (Dartmouth) is a major sponsor of the race series and also contributed to the cost of purchasing the merchandise, along with M&R Automotive (Gander, NL) so 100% of the sales could be donated to the IWK Foundation. Fundraisers included BBQs hosted in conjunction with series events sponsored by several dealerships in the Steele Auto Group including Steele Volkswagen, Subaru Charlottetown, Subaru Moncton, Anchor Toyota (Stellarton), Steele GMC Fredericton, and Fredericton Hyundai. The Hot Rod Classics formed an alliance with the IWK Foundation in the series first year, 2020, and has since donated a whopping $43,125, including this year’s total. “We are so grateful for the continued support of the Heart of a Champion Hot Rod Classics year after year,” said Melanie Matheson, Director, Development, IWK Foundation. “Events like these ensure IWK patients and families across the Maritimes can access world-class care close to home. On behalf of the IWK Foundation, thank you to the Heart of a Champion team for their generosity.” The 2024 race season saw the Hot Rod Classics powered by Kimco continue to grow with visits to seven tracks in the three Maritime provinces showcasing race cars reminiscent of days gone by. Some are original, some are replicas – all are finely crafted and created especially for the series by race teams passionate about preserving Maritime motorsports history. As part of the Heart of a Champion group on Facebook, the series’ social media presence is powerful with over 42,000 followers and growing. Looking forward to 2025, fans of the Hot Rod Classics can expect new cars from Stephen Curtis and Patty Lawrence with other new additions anticipated. The schedule is expected to be announced early in the New Year. Building and procedural rules are posted on the series website at www.hotrodclassics.ca for those interested. Series organizers thank everyone who has supported their IWK Foundation fundraising efforts from racers to sponsors to fans to staff, each integral in the result.
