Fan Fulfills Dream, Visits Richard Petty, Donates $10k to Foundation September 25, 2014 NASCAR LEVEL CROSS, N.C. (September 24, 2014) – It had been over 10 years, but George Mason of Evansville, Indiana never forgot the day he met Richard and Kyle Petty at an appearance in his hometown. It was after that meeting that Mason knew he wanted to make a donation to enrich the lives of the children at Victory Junction through the Petty Family Foundation. But, his family wanted to ensure that Mason was able to fulfill his wish. With an RV, the family packed in and left for trips to visit family in Texas before driving to Level Cross, N.C. It was there where the family and Mason met executives from the Petty Family Foundation. Mason was given a tour of the new Petty Museum before meeting “The King” Richard Petty. Petty took Mason around the historical site of Petty Enterprises before giving him a ride in a Petty’s Garage custom Ford Mustang. Mason was thrilled, and in a gesture of unbelievable kindness, signed a check for the amount of $10,000 to the Petty Family Foundation to be used for Victory Junction. As Mason presented Petty the check, “The King” gave him one of his signature Charlie One Horse cowboy hats, autographed. With smiles, both men accepted. The Mason family then made a trip to Victory Junction for a tour of the camp they have now helped make a difference at. “It’s always heartwarming when a single family makes such a large contribution to the Petty Family Foundation,” said Rebecca Moffit, Executive Director of the Petty Family Foundation. “George had met Richard and Kyle years ago and made his vow then to make this donation. His legacy will now live on through the smiles on the faces of the kids at Victory Junction for years to come. We are very appreciative of his kind gesture.
