As a result of the massive storm that deluged the Sydney area on Monday, officials at Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway have postponed the facilities season finale from October 15-16 until October 22-23. Photos surfaced on the social media of the speedway on Monday, showing it looking more like a pond than a race track.
According to The Weather Network, more than 225 mm of rain fell on the Sydney area Monday along with sustained winds of over 110km/hr causing substantial flooding and extensive power outages. Many businesses were closed Tuesday and hospitals in the area were operating on an emergency-only basis.
We expect more to follow from Speedway owners regarding the schedule for October 22-23, once things have settled in the area.
Best of luck to our readers who may have experienced damage.
