RIVER GLADE, NBĀ – This Sunday Petty International Raceway will kick off the inaugural New Brunswick Big Dawg Challenge – a six-race series between sportsman, street stock, and mini stock racers from PIR and Speedway Miramichi. Sunday’s show will also see the debut of the much-anticipated new-for-2014 Petty Pro Stock division along with championship points racing for the Bandoleros. The Big Dawg Challenge has drawn lots of interest from racers in all three divisions that will see series champions crowned; this Sunday will set the stage for the chase for those championships. The new pro stock division has also been the subject of much interest as the pre-season has unfolded and marks the first time in several years that eastern New Brunswick has seen ‘regular’ pro stock racing. This event is the second of 12 shows planned for Petty International Raceway in 2014. Five house divisions will compete for points including the sportsman, street stock, and mini stock, along with bandolero and the new-for-2014 pro stock division. Touring series on the schedule include the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour, Maritime League of Legends and the AOW. Two regional challenge series events for sportsman teams will be held at Petty this year: the New Brunswick Big Dawg Challenge will see Petty teams go against those from Speedway Miramichi, and the Maritime Sportsman Challenge will see the Petty drivers test their skills against teams predominantly from Nova Scotia. On August 22 & 23 Petty will host the 50th edition of the oldest stock car race in Canada – the River Glade International. Racing starts at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Heat races will set the starting grid for the features: 100 laps for sportsman, 50 laps for pro stock, 30 laps for street stock, and 25 laps each for mini-stock and bandolero. Grandstand admission is just $20 for adults, $10 for youth aged eight to 18 and children seven and under will be admitted free.
