OYSTER BED BRDIGE, PE – An evening at Oyster Bed Speedway shortened by weather had its bright spots and historical moments in round two of the 2024 stock car racing season in Oyster Bed Bridge, P.E.I.

Fans were treated to many on-and-off-track activities as part of Fan Appreciation Night, including bouncy houses, face painting, Kids Rides, and a meet-and-greet intermission. On the track, all heat and semi races and three features were run and entertained fans with great racing before the skies opened up and forced track management to call off the final two features.

The highlight of the event was the infectious smile on Charlee Rayner’s (#24) face after the Reliable Motors Beginner Bandolero feature, as she collected her first career feature win and was both ecstatic and speechless in victory lane. Rayner started third and charged her way up to the lead on lap eight, making the winning pass on Payton Gallant (#42).

Hudson Linzel-Waddell (#57), Oliver Rayner (#23), and Juliana O’Connor (#10) rounded out the top five. Charlee Rayner won heat #2 and finished second in the semi race. Gallant won heat #1 and the semi race.

After Rayner’s win, the Bandoleros weren’t done with giving fans a show, as the Reliable Motors Outlaw Bandolero feature was an instant classic. Andrew O’Connor (#63) outlasted Mason Gillis (#9) and reigning champion Landon Pierce (#19) in a thrilling finish to pick up his first win in the division. O’Connor, a newcomer to the experienced class, went from fourth to second on lap one with a three-wide pass and sped after Gillis to battle for the lead.

With five laps remaining, the two young guns were side-by-side and rubbed doors exiting turn two. O’Connor eventually made the winning pass and held Gillis off. Pierce started fifth and was initially slowed down by a two-car incident on lap three involving Ethan Hicken (#5) and Simon Doyle (#91), but he charged to the front and was lurking behind O’Connor and Gillis in the closing laps.

Pierce settled for third and won heat and semi #2. Gillis won heat #1 and Wyatt Peters (#33) won semi #1. Rhyan Burke (#01) and Doyle rounded out the top five. Nova Scotia’s Irelyn Rose (#47) finished sixth in her first feature of the season. Hunter MacKinnon (#07) and Cole Doyle (#12) failed to start the feature.

Young fans were thrilled to witness Jeff Bridges’ (#95) Lightning McQueen car take home a checkered flag in the Chris’s Bobcat Services Mini Stock division feature. Bridges started sixth and was up to second by lap four, eventually passing polesitter Cash Bridges (#95) on lap six for the lead. It was Jeff Bridges’ first feature win since 2022, as the reigning champion never won a feature in 2023.

Cash Bridges fell one spot short of a triple win as he won the heat and semi races. Ricky Bedell (#2) and rookies Campbell Stewart (#3) and Austin Corrigan (#10) rounded out the top five. Souris’ Adam Holland (#01) made his first start of the season and finished [?]. Corbin MacAulay (#17) was expected to make his highly-anticipated debut and had a fast car in practice until motor issues prevented him from any further action.

Unfortunately, the Moore Well Drilling 4-Cylinder Outlaw division and the A&S Scrap Metals Street Stock Super Series had their features cut short by precipitation, but the heat and semi races set the stage for what could be exciting races at Oyster Bed Speedway’s next event.

In the Outlaw division, Bradley Richard (#49) and Jordan LeClair (#47) picked up heat and semi wins, respectively.

In the Street Stock division, Matthew Ford (#86) won heat and semi #1 in his first start of the season. Nick Chiasson (#27) won heat #2 and Brandon Albert won semi #2. The second heat race saw a wicked battle between Tyler Doucette (#24) and Randy Millar (#77) for second place, with the latter taking it. In the second semi race, Andrew Thompson (#4) made a big save while battling up front and settled for third place.

Full results can be found below and on the website’s points page. Points standings and more will be posted in the coming days. Congratulations to all winners of the 2024 Fan Appreciation Night event!
