On Sunday, they were mourning the unexpected death of Ty’s father, Coy Gibbs (49), VP at JGR, and son of team owner Joe Gibbs. Ty was scheduled to race Sunday for 23XI Racing but it was announced in the early afternoon that he would be replaced by Daniel Hemric due to a family emergency. A short while later, JGR announced that Coy had passed away. Coy’s older brother, J.D. Gibbs, passed away from a neurological disease in 2019; he was also 49.
