Sydney Speedway Planning Full Season for 2021 January 8, 2021 Regional SYDNEY, NS – With a new year upon us, Sydney Speedway is busy getting ready for a new season of motorsports action. Under the ownership of Greg Dowe for a third season, the oval on Grand Lake Road in Sydney, Nova Scotia will be expanding not only its roster of divisions but also its schedule. This will open an opportunity up for track champions to be crowned in a minimum of three divisions, which will mark the first time since 2015 that the facility will award season-long championships. Several special events that teams and fans have seen over the past two seasons will also return to the calendar in 2021. Following a successful Halloween Spooktacular event in late October that featured increased payouts in both the Mini Stock and Legend divisions, a focus on local grassroots racing will anchor the 2021 season at Sydney Speedway. These events will run every two to three weeks during the season with the returning Mini Stock and Street Stock divisions scheduled for each card. In addition, the newly announced six cylinder Thunder division will also be a regular division with a season long championship on the line. An additional division for the program is being discussed and is expected to be announced soon. The Late Model Sportsman, Legend and Bandolero classes will spotlight on select events on the local season schedule in 2021. The schedule is slated to include, at minimum, two invitational events like have been seen over the past two seasons. The aforementioned Late Model Sportsman, Legend, Bandolero and Mini Stock classes have headlined these special races and are expected to do the same in the coming year. In addition to the stock car events, two Demolition Derby features are expected to be contested in 2021. The most recent Demolition Derby came in October 2020 when over 30 cars showed up to smash their way to the front in the Dawn Campbell Memorial Derby. Should COVID-19 restrictions and weather permit, Sydney Speedway is considering a Winter or Spring Endurance event. More information will be released as it is available. In total, the 2021 schedule should feature upwards of ten to 12 races between May and October when released. Track officials attended the Second Annual Maritime Short Track Summit in December and is in conversations with other race tracks in regards to dates. Once finalized, the schedule will be released to the public.Marketing opportunities at the track are available for the season.
