Mini Cup Series Set for Round Two Saturday in PEI June 14, 2019 Regional The Eastern Super Mini Cup Series will make a second attempt at getting their season underway on Saturday. The Doc Dawson Enterprises 20 is the first of five races slated for the high banked Oyster Bed Speedway at Oyster Bed Bridge, Prince Edward Island. The Saturday, June 15 race for the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series is a part of a weekly point show for Oyster Bed Speedway and has a post time of 6 pm. Two weeks after their first event was lost due to rain, the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series cars and stars have had more time to prepare themselves to race. Different teams have different ways to approach a season, especially with having more time to anticipate the first green flag of the season. One of those veterans is Kirk Sheasgreen. The Miramichi driver is one of two full time drivers on the Series from the Province of New Brunswick and has been racing Mini Cup cars since the division came to the Maritimes. He has been hoping the season would come sooner rather than later after a dismal 2018. “We are really looking forward to getting back to the track,” said the driver of the No. 40 car. “We had a terrible 2018 season. I love Oyster Bed Speedway. I love the racing the track produces, the management and the fans that support the place. I really want to get a win there this year and put last year in the rearview mirror.” The extra two weeks of preparation were enough for Jacob Dunlop to get his car ready. The 2018 Rookie of the Year won three races on the Series in 2018, including the Concept Drilling Season Finale at Speedway Miramichi last October but was not quite ready at the beginning of this month to start the season. In fact, it was the weather that helped his cause out of a bit to get ready as he explains. “I don’t have a garage to work out of to prepare the car,” said the Hampton, Prince Edward Island driver. “We needed some warmth and some sun to give us a place to work on the car, so the weather over the last little while has helped us. The car still needs some tuning, our first practice didn’t go as well as we planned. I’m looking forward to racing this year, sending it on Saturday night and building on what we accomplished last season.” Four drivers drove to victory lane last season with the Series. Mark Ferguson (Saint John, NB) is the reigning Eastern Super Mini Cup Series champion and is the defending winner of the Doc Dawson Enterprises 20. “Old Man” Donnie McNeil is a two time feature winner from 2018 at Oyster Bed Speedway. Sophomore Logan Dawson (Tyne Valley, PE) also broke through for his first career Series win at the CENTRE For Speed last October. Dunlop was the Series win leader in 2018 with three victories including the most recent two races at Oyster Bed Speedway. They will be joined by several drivers looking to break their way into victory lane this season, including Randy Wilson, Danny Dawson (Tyne Valley, PE) and Tanton Wooldridge (Summerside, PE). Brodie Lewis (Charlottetown, PE) is expected to rejoin the Series mid-season in hopes of racking up some hardware in 2019. The first event of the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series season was scheduled for Sunday, June 2nd at Oyster Bed Speedway but was lost due to weather. Series and track officials have yet to announce a makeup date for the event but expect the 20-lap feature to be raced at some point during the 2019 season. Adult grandstand admission price for Sunday afternoon’s Doc Dawson Enterprises 20 is $17 (aged 16 and up), youth admission (aged eight to 15) is $5 and children under eight are admitted free of charge. Pit admission is $22 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Pit gates for competitors and grandstand gates for fans will open at 2:30pm with racing getting underway at 6pm. The event also includes racing in five Oyster Bed Speedway house divisions, Pro Stocks, Street Stock, Mini Outlaw, Four Fun and Legends. Following the Doc Dawson Enterprises 20, the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series returns to action at Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday, July 27th for Race Three. Post time is 6pm.
