Petty International Raceway is back in action this Sunday with one of the biggest events at the track for the 2016 season. The Fourth Annual Caleb Dunn Memorial presented by the Atlantic Dodge Dealers will see five stock car divisions duke it out in this Sunday afternoon special. The event is run in memory of Maritime racing legend Caleb Dunn, who won more than 200 races in his career and was a member of the inaugural class of the Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame. Festivities get underway at 4pm on Sunday, July 31.

The man everyone will have their eye on heading into the extended lap Caleb Dunn Memorial Sportsman 150 presented by the Atlantic Dodge Dealers is current track champion Luc Bourgeois of Memramcook, New Brunswick. Bourgeois enters as the point leader by four points over Andrew Rodgers (Smithtown, NB) and was the most recent winner in the division when he won the D.R. Scrap Metals and MetalCore Sportsman 100 on Saturday, July 9th. Additionally, Bourgeois is the defending winner of the Caleb Dunn Memorial event and will look on Sunday to become the only driver in the brief four-year history of the event to win the race twice.

Among the top five in the point standings in the Sportsman division also include former Extreme Window and Entrance Systems Street Stock champions Kenny MacKenzie Jr (Salisbury, NB) and Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB), who only have two points between them in third and fourth in the standings. Matt Maillet (Burton, NB), who is on the search for his first Sportsman win of the season, sits fifth in the standings after three races.

Mike Duskey (Albany, PE) snapped the win streak of “The Thrill Maker” Craig Ward (Riverview, NB) last Sunday in the Extreme Window and Entrance Systems Street Stock division but if Duskey wants the season long championship, he still has work to do. Ward, who has three wins on the season to Duskey’s two, leads the pair by six points heading into Sunday’s Caleb Dunn Memorial presented by the Atlantic Dodge Dealers. Nick Cudmore (Goshen, NB) is third in the standings, ahead of Shawn Lewis (Salisbury, NB), who scored his first top three finish one week ago. Tim Layton (Albert Mines, NB) suffered a crash in his heat race on July 24th but remains fifth in the standings after five races.

It took JR Lawson (Shubenacadie, NS) five races but the 2014 Mister Transmission Mini Stock champion was back in victory lane on July 24th as the winner of the main feature. The win moved Lawson to third in the standings, one point behind Logan Power (Moncton, NB) and ten markers behind leader Tim Webster (Beaver Bank, NS) in the championship chase. Rob Poirier (Irishtown, NB) dropped to fourth in the standings after last week’s race, only two points from Lawson in third. Chantel Ackles (Shubenacadie, NS) remains fifth in the standings on the strength of her fourth place finish during the Irving Blending & Packaging 150 racing action last weekend.

“The Flying Frenchman” Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB) put some insurance between he and his closest competitors last weekend by scoring his second win of the season in the Leisure Days RV Bandolero division. In fact, in five races, Cormier has yet to finish outside the top two, an impressive feat considering the stiff competition in the class. He has a six point advantage now on Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, NS), who has one feature win on the year and a worst finish of fourth. Nathan Blackburn (Timberlea, NS) pulled to within three points of Rogers after last weekend’s feature. Austin MacDonald (Pictou, NS) will enter with a one point gap on Josh Langille (Coldbrook, NS) as the two former Canadian champions occupy fourth and fifth in the standings heading into Sunday.

Tom Betts (Doaktown, NB) was the most recent winner on the Atlantic Modified Tour on July 16th at Speedway Miramichi. Kevin Bailey (Minto, NB) was the feature winner the last time the series was in town on July 9th. Point standings for the Atlantic Modified Tour were unavailable as of press time.

Prior to the racing action, the younger fans at Petty International Raceway will be treated to Kids Rides. The cars and stars of Petty International Raceway will be brought down to the front straight so the kids can go for a ride around the race track with their favorite Petty International Raceway driver at a safe speed prior to the racing portion of the show. Fans are urged to arrive early as Kids Rides will take place at 4pm sharp.

Grandstand admission prices for Sunday’s Caleb Dunn Memorial at Petty International Raceway are $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 18, while children seven years of age and under will be admitted free. Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older.
