Scotia Speedworld 29th Season to Include 21 Events February 24, 2016 Regional HALIFAX, NS – The management of Scotia Speedworld are excited to present the 2016 racing schedule for the 1/3-mile asphalt oval featuring 21 events over 17 weekends between May and September. Entering its 29th consecutive season, Scotia Speedworld is the only facility in Nova Scotia that offers a weekly racing series program, running on Friday evenings at 7:00 p.m. all season. The season opens on Saturday, May 21 with the first event on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour. The popular regional touring series will race four times at Scotia Speedworld in 2016, with additional races on June 18, the 17th Annual Atlantic Cat 250 on August 13 and the season finale for the series on September 17. The Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour will support the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour on May 21, August 13 and September 17. The Sportsman division will see four extended features during the 2016 season. The marquee division on the Scotia Speedworld Weekly Racing Series will headline Canada Day with the 22nd Annual Shriners Classic, along with 50 lap features on June 17 and August 19. The Sportsman 100 will open the Atlantic Cat 250 weekend on Friday, August 12. Last season, Russell Smith Jr. (Lakeside) took home not only the season-long championship but also won the Shriners Classic and the 100-lap feature on Atlantic Cat 250 weekend. The Coors Light Truck schedule is highlighted by an extended 50-lap feature on August 19. The convoy of tailgaters will also return as the undercard on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour 150-lap feature on June 18. Dan Smith (Lower Sackville) is on the “drive for five” in 2016 after winning the last four consecutive Coors Light Truck Championships – a feat that has never been pulled off in the 28-year history of the race track. The Strictly Hydraulics Legend division will race their extended 50-lap feature as a part of INEX Night on Friday, June 17. Their INEX counterparts, the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero division, will also race an extended feature on INEX Night as the young guns will duke it out for 25-laps. Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake) took home a nail-biting championship win in the Strictly Hydraulics Legend division in 2015 while Braden Langille (Shubenacadie, Outlaw) and Josh Langille (Coldbrook, Bandit) won Hydraulics Plus Bandolero crowns in their respective age groups. The Thunder division will race an extended 50-lap feature on July 15, along with their four-cylinder cohorts in the Lightning division. Both will race on a night the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour is in town, with the Lightning class taking the track on June 18th while the Thunder division has been added to the Atlantic Cat 250 undercard on August 13. Matthew Warren (White’s Lake) and Deven Smith (Lakeside) were 2015 champions in the Thunder and Lightning classes, respectively. The popular Fanfest makes a return for a second season on June 10. Kiddie Rides are back twice in 2016, taking place on June 24 and September 2. Two $20 Carload Admission Nights will take place on July 8 and August 26. All Weekly Racing Series divisions will open their seasons on Sunday, May 22 and crown champions on Friday, September 16. Further announcements on promotions taking place on individual race dates will follow as the season draws closer. In addition to stock car events, the Maple Leaf Monster Jam Tour and Nitro Circus are sure to leave motorsports fans on the edge of their seats. The Maple Leaf Monster Jam Tour rolls into town on May 28 and 29, while Nitro Circus will thrill fans for the first time in Halifax on July 30.
