NASCAR will make a major announcement Tuesday at a press conference scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (ET). “NASCAR and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team owners are pleased to share information that will be in place for the 2016 season,” said David Higdon, NASCAR Vice President, Integrated Marketing Communications. NASCAR Chairman & CEO Brian France will be joined by key industry executives to make the announcement which is expected to provide details for a new charter system that will provide more security for NASCAR Sprint Cup team owners. Speculation is that the number of starting spots in a race will drop from 43 to 40 and that the top 36 teams who have attempted to start every race since 2013 will be automatically enrolled as charter members with guaranteed revenue and starting positions. The 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup series season gets underway this Saturday with the Sprint Unlimited, anon-points event. The first race of the ‘regular’ season is next Sunday, February 21, the Daytona 500.
