25th Anniversary Schedule Announced for Speedway 660 March 2, 2018 Regional Speedway 660 officials are embarking on the 25th season of racing in the Geary woods. The first piece of what will be a busy 2018 is the schedule of stock car racing events for the year. The schedule offers 13 regular point racing cards from May to August with SpeedWeekend 2018 serving as the finale for the season from August 31st to September 2nd. The season will kick off on the Victoria Day Weekend with the 25th Anniversary Season Opener on Sunday, May 20th at 2 pm. A pre-season tech and practice day for competitors will be held on Saturday afternoon prior to the Sunday’s season lid lifter. The schedule will begin with three Sunday afternoon races. Following the opener will see the “Race for Hunger” on Sunday, May 27th benefitting the Oromocto Food Bank. Sunday, June 3rd will see the popular Kids Day. All Sunday afternoon events will see a 2 pm post time. The Sharp Shooters 50 on Saturday, June 9th will mark the transition to Saturday evening racing. All scheduled Saturday evening events are slated for a green flag at 6:30 pm. July will affectionately be known as the month “the Best of the Best” take to the track in the Pro Stock division. The month will be bookended by two 100-lap Pro Stock events on Saturday, July 7th and Saturday, July 28th. The division will compete for a championship on every regularly scheduled card on the season, with the exception of Saturday, August 11th. The Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman will see a pair of extended distance races prior to their 150-lap SpeedWeekend race on Saturday, September 1st. The Martin’s Home Heating 100 will take place on Saturday, June 23rd while the Firecracker 150 on Saturday, August 11th will set the stage for their September classic. DMR Auto will present the Street Stock 100 on Saturday, July 21st. Complete details will be available on this extended distance race will be available as the 25th Anniversary Season at Speedway 660 nears. By popular demand, Christmas in July will return to Speedway 660 on Saturday, July 7th. With a Pro Stock 100 on the same night, it is sure to be a magical night at the track. The point season will conclude with Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday, August 18th and the Night of Champions on Saturday, August 25th. Brent Roy (Hanwell, NB; Pro Stock), John Rankin (St. Martins, NB; Sportsman), Luc McLaughlin (Geary, NB; Street Stock) and Kyle Boudreau (Browns Flats, NB; Sharp Shooters) took home season-long point championships in their respective divisions in 2017. The 18th Annual SpeedWeekend kicks into high gear on Saturday, September 1st with the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 150. The Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 150 on SpeedWeekend is one of the most prestigious Late Model Sportsman events in Atlantic Canada and is expected to draw entries from all over the region to compete for the victory. Also joining the Sportsman division on SpeedWeekend Saturday are the Maritime League of Legends and MJS Holdings Limited and Prime Lifts East Coast Mini Stock Tour. Current INEX Pro Legend point leader Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB) took the checkered flag in the Legend feature in 2017 while Dave Matthews (Kennetcook, NS) edged Darren Flemming (Rawdon, NS) in a thrilling ECMST finish. The Pro Stock 250 will cap the 25th Anniversary Season at Speedway 660 on Sunday, September 2nd. Cassius Clark (Farmington, ME) and the King Racing team based out of Pictou, Nova Scotia became three-time champions of the event after winning the 2017 edition of the Labour Day weekend crown jewel.
