Fiona Postpones Speedworld Season Finale to Next Weekend

September 23, 2022 – Due to the current forecast regarding Hurricane Fiona, Scotia Speedworld has postponed the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series and the East Coast International Pro Stock Tour season finales. Both events have been rescheduled for next weekend. The CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series will close out its season next Friday night at 7:00 pm. The season finale for the East Coast International Pro Stock Tour – the Tirecraft 200, will run next Saturday, October 1 at 4:00 pm.

All tickets purchased in advance for this weekend will be accepted at the gates next weekend. September 21, 2022 – The CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series will close out its 35^th season this Friday night at 7:00 pm. Champions will be crowned in all divisions as well as Tim Hortons Rookie of the Year. Grandstand opens at 5:00 pm. If your need for speed isn’t quenched, you can check out the East Coast International Pro Stock Tour Season Finale on Saturday at 4:00 pm with the Tirecraft 200.

Three season-long championships will come down to the final laps of the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series season! None is more intriguing than the Fleet Brake Atlantic Late Model Sportsman where “The Big Three” will decide another championship amongst them. After an incredible performance to fourth place last week, Deven Smith (Lakeside, NS) was able to preserve his point lead when his back was against the wall during the late laps of the CARSTAR Night feature on September 16th. The defending champion has an 11-point lead on Alex Johnson (Enfield, NS) and a 17-point advantage on Pete Miller (Kennetcook, NS). Miller holds a hot hand as the most recent feature winner at Scotia Speedworld and has finished on the podium in nine of his last ten races region-wide. 

The Toursec Thunder division will crown a first-time Scotia Speedworld track champion as JJ MacPhee leads Nic Baker by nine points heading into TCM Finale Friday. MacPhee, son of Fleet Brake Atlantic Sportsman driver Steve MacPhee, makes the long haul every week to Halifax from Yarmouth to compete every week. Baker, who began his racing career at his home track in 2014, has worked out west in recent seasons before coming home to compete full-time at Scotia Speedworld in 2022. Both have displayed incredible racing prowess and will be deserving champions – but only one can hold the title!

The Strictly Hydraulics Legends has been a war between the three rising stars of our sport. Danny Chisholm (Canning, NS) has a 17-point lead over the pair battling for second. Gage Gilby (Enfield, NS), the Young Lions from 2021 at the Speedworld, has a single point on Owen Mahar (Hubley, NS) for the runner-up spot in the standings. The trio will also battle for the season-long Cross Roads Maritime League of Legends Tour on Saturday, making this double header weekend potentially a huge one for these drivers!

Colin Matthews (Halifax, NS – Toursec Lightning), Ayden Christensen (Windsor Junction, NS – Sunbelt Rentals Bandoleros) and Hailey Bland (Lakeview, NS – Sunbelt Rentals Beginner Bandoleros) have comfortable leads in their respective divisions. Based on average car counts this season, the trio only has to start their heats and features to unofficially clinch their 2022 track championships.

Two Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie of the Year battles will come down to Friday’s night final features. In the Fleet Brake Atlantic Sportsman division, one that has seen five full time rookies compete in 2022, sees two-time feature winner Dylan Dowe (Bedford, NS) up by 11 points on former Toursec Thunder champion Jesse Deveau (Greenwood, NS). While Dowe has been racking up wins, Deveau has been a model of consistency.

The Toursec Lightning class has seen a classic see-saw battle between Chris McMullin (Elmsdale, NS) and Kyle Sinton (Truro, NS) for the top freshman honor. McMullin has one feature win to his credit while Sinton has been consistent all season. They have big shoes to fill in 2023 as last season’s top rookie Colin Matthews has gone on to battle for the overall championship within the class in 2022.

Admission for the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series is $20 for adults, $5 for youth (8-15yrs), children seven and under are free all season at Scotia Speedworld! Grandstands open at 5:00pm.
