SYDNEY, NS – Management of Sydney Speedway is excited to unveil its 2020 schedule of racing. The schedule features four action-packed weekends throughout the Summer with three of those weekends featuring action-packed, doubleheader events.

The action will start in June when the track welcomes the Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour for two days of action on June 13th and 14th. The INEX sanctioned Legend and Bandolero divisions, along with the Bomber division will play support on both days of Opening Weekend while the Late Model Sportsman will join the card for Sunday, July 14th.

Racing returns to Sydney Speedway on the July 25th and 26th weekend for the Mid Summer Showdown. The Mini Stock, Legend, Bandolero and Bomber divisions will compete on both days with the Late Model Sportsman hitting the track on Sunday, July 26th.

The “Sunday in September” will serve as a final tuneup for the Thanksgiving Thunder event. The racing card on the final Sunday of the month, Sunday, September 27th, will feature action in the Mini Stock, Legend, Bandolero, Bomber and Late Model Sportsman divisions.

The final weekend of racing action for the season takes place from Friday, October 9th to Sunday, October 11th with the Second Annual Thanksgiving Thunder. Friday will see an open practice, parking and early arrival party. Saturday will see the racing action begin in all of Sydney Speedway’s house divisions headlined by a 100-lap Sportsman feature. Sunday will see the regular racing season draw to a close with the four house divisions competing for one final time before the winter hits, highlighted by twin 50-lap events for the Mini Stocks!

“We are looking forward to our second season of racing in Sydney,” said Greg Dowe, owner of Sydney Speedway. “Our schedule allows teams, drivers and fans to race at their home track on four weekends throughout the warm months but also gives them time to enjoy other summertime events. We also want to thank Drew MacEachern and his staff with the Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour for their support and helping us bring racing back to life at our track. Cape Breton Island is a great destination and we hope race teams will make our bullring a stop on their schedule this season!”

The biggest change on the racing roster side is the addition of at least one Sportsman race each weekend the track operates and the dissolution of the Street Stock class at the Cape Breton oval.

“We did not see the support we thought we would out of the Street Stock division in 2019,” said Tim Terry, race operations at Sydney Speedway. “Our hope was to see a minimum of five cars per race, as was the case with the Late Model Sportsman division. Only three local Street Stock cars showed up to their home track on the two events and that is not enough to sustain the division in the long term. With John Halliday retiring and no other track in the Province hosting a Street Stock division to attract cars, it left our team with a tough decision. We want to thank John Halliday, Colton Beaver and Brennan MacInnis for their support of the track and hope to see them within another one of our house divisions soon.”
