Speedway 660 Set for Canada Day Show June 30, 2023 Regional With the calendar set to turn the page to July, things are heating up at Speedway 660 as drivers set their sights on a season-long points championship. Next up on the card is the prestigious 5th Annual Ricky Bobby 150 for the Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stocks. An early entry list was released Wednesday with twenty-eight (28) drivers on it, but that has continued to grow. While the Ricky Bobby 150 is a show points race for Street Stock competitors, the event will kick-off with points championship racing in two Speedway 660 house classes – the Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division, and the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter division. After a rain-out and regional series competing at Speedway 660 in May, only one point race has been contested thus far for the Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division. That race went to Dave O’Blenis (#48), the six-time Speedway 660 Pro Stock champion. The question is, just how big of a lure is a seventh title, and how much work is ahead of O’Blenis against veteran drivers like Kevin Moore (#88) and Calvin Rankin (#45), second-generation driver Ian Rasmussen (#81), and newcomers to the division who have already impressed in Ryan Raynes (#94), Clark Moore (#54), and Hudson Weston (#43) – with Weston bringing home a podium finish a few weeks ago finishing second to O’Blenis. Also among the expected entries is Ryan Messer (#1), who has won his last three starts in a Pro Stock at Speedway 660. Fans will see the Harvey driver pulling double duty as he also enters the 5th Annual Ricky Bobby Street Stock 150. Seventy-five (75) laps is on the card for the Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division. Alex Gallant (#5) continues to maintain his points lead in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter division by the narrowest of margins. Just one point is the gap back to veteran driver Randy Titus (#75). Each driver has modeled consistency, with one runner-up finish and three top-10 finishes in feature competition. Matt Martin (#33) has also been consistent, quietly finding his way into third in points with finishes of fifth, sixth, and seventh. Darren Wilcox (#32) sits fourth ten points behind the leader, with Austin Harnish (#13) rounding out the top five. There have been three different winners through the first three events, but you have to drop to seventh in points to find one of those drivers – and that would be Riverview Ford Season Opener winner Mitchell Harvey (#19). Daniel Atyeo (#15) and Jason Duffield (#91) also have driven into Riverview Ford victory lane thus far in 2023. With plenty of racing to go, the points battles are still open in the Sharp Shooter division, but this week’s 30-lap feature will be crucial, as a nearly month-long break follows before action resumes at the end of July – at which point intensity will be ramping up even more. Stay in the Know The action starts at 6:30 pm on Saturday, July 1. Pits for competitors will open at 12:00 pm with practice getting underway at 2:30 pm. Grandstand tickets are $30 for adults, and as always kids fifteen (15) years of age and under will be admitted free to the grandstands. Pit admission is $35 and is restricted to those at least sixteen (16) years of age and older, except for youth who are direct family members of a driver, who can enter the pits with properly signed waivers. All entrants to the pits must complete the e-waiver prior to entering the pits.
