See Santa Saturday at Speedwat 660’s Christmas in July July 26, 2018 Regional GEARY, NB – The Maritime Provinces may be under a heat wave but that will not stop Santa from stopping in to visit the good racers and fans of Speedway 660. In conjunction with the second Best of the Best Pro Stock 100 presented by RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty, Saturday evening marks Christmas in July for the second straight year. Along with racing in four divisions, a number of prize giveaways and promotions will take place throughout the evening. Post time for the July 28th event is 6:30 pm. Santa will make a rare Summer appearance to greet fans throughout the evening and will drop off a number of door prizes under the tree and treats for the kids. Among the prizes Santa has in his bag includes a full 2018 Speedway 660 SpeedWeekend ticket package and campsite for SpeedWeekend 2018. To be in the prize draws, you must be at the Speedway on Saturday for Christmas in July. Along with prizes for fans, the teams of the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division have extra laps tucked under the tree for Saturday. The class will run 100-laps in their final extended distance race prior to the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 in September. A number of visiting and part-time cars are expected to fine-tune their racing rides this weekend while racing for the checkered flag, including Saint John’s Steve Halpin and former track champion Chris Duncan of Hampton. Both drivers from the Port City region will be making their first Speedway 660 starts of 2018 in the Best of the Best 100 this Saturday. The first of two Best of the Best 100 events in the month went to Brent Roy of Hanwell. Roy, who won his first career extended distance race in the event, raced to the checkered flag ahead of point leader Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) and Ryan Messer (Harvey) in the July 7th affair. The trio, should they want to rise to the top, will have to also fend off the likes of 2018 feature winners Greg Fahey (St. Stephen) and Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton), among others, on Saturday evening. Curtis Collins (Saint John) chipped away at the point lead last week in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division. The advantage that Drew Greenlaw (Eastport, ME) now has on Collins is five points. There is some separation back to a tight battle for third which sees sisters Courtney and Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) racing it out with last week’s feature winner Jacob Logan (Harvey). The trio sits over 20 points off the lead battle and only has five points between them heading into Christmas in July. Riley Goodwin (McAdam) will resume the chase of the DMR Auto Street Stock title after a Ricky Bobby Street Stock 100 that saw 25 drivers converge on Speedway 660. Justin Cole (Harvey) sits nine points off the mark set by Goodwin through seven regular point cards. Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen) and Roger Slocum (Chipman) follow closely behind with “The Villain” Rick Cashol (Saint John) fifth in the standings after a blown motor sidelined him from the Ricky Bobby 100 last Saturday. The back and forth battle continues in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters division. After his fourth win in eight races, Brody Levesque (Fredericton) has returned to the top of the point standings. This time, it is Bryan Suttie (Keswick) who plays immediate chase with just two markers between him and the No. 05. “Bat Hubby” Scott Kennie (Fredericton) has set himself back to third in the championship standings but is only six points off the mark of Levesque after eight events. Rookies Randy Titus (French Lake) and Randy Storey comprise the bottom half of the top five heading into Saturday night’s 20-lap feature. Returning for 2018, children aged 15 and under will be admitted to the grandstands for free to every stock car event at Speedway 660. The admission structure makes it easier for families to attend race events at the track and received positive feedback from fans when implemented mid-season in 2017. Adult grandstand admission price for Saturday evening’s Christmas in July and Best of the Best Pro Stock 100 is $15 (aged 16 and up). Pit admission is $20 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Pit gates for competitors will open at 1 pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 5:30 pm with racing getting underway at 6:30 pm. A complete race day format will be available at Speedway660.com later in the week. Should inclement weather interfere with Saturday’s Best of the Best Pro Stock 100, the rain date for this event is Sunday, July 29.
