The Petty Family Foundation has partnered with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) to host the first annual Petty “Hot Pass to Fashion” Challenge and Red Carpet Event. The Petty Fashion Challenge will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Petty Enterprises Historical Site located in Level Cross, N.C. The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. Richard Petty, aka ‘The King’, will take part in the show that will feature designs inspired by significant moments of his long and illustrious career, based upon a recent visit by the students to the Richard Petty Museum in Randleman, N.C. Fans nationwide will be able to follow each design and choose their favorite design by voting online for the “Popular Vote” at the Petty Family Foundation website. The winning designer, selected by a panel of style and fashion industry judges and celebrities, will have their designs featured in a spread in Carolina STYLE Magazine. Prizes will also include career-launching internships in the textile and fashion industry, and the opportunity for the winners to show their designs at Charlotte International Fashion Week in 2015. Local models will be hand-selected to strut each unique design down the runway. “The Petty ‘Hot Pass to Fashion’ Challenge will connect graduating seniors with fashion industry peers and corporations in hopes of launching their careers in an ever-changing job market,” said Jill Mongelli, Non-Profit Events Director for The Petty Family Foundation. “This is an event that will truly make an impact in the lives of each aspiring and young designer. We’re so thrilled to have supporters to have stepped up to showcase our winners work in the region. All of our designers are working hard and this will help them take their first step toward successful careers. We are really looking forward to a great show.” Proceeds raised from this event will provide scholarships for rising students in UNCG’s CARS program, as well as Victory Junction.
