HALIFAX, NS – Austin MacDonald (Pictou) won his first Maritime Pro Stock Tour race at one of the biggest races on the series – the Summer Clash 250. The young driver survived a battle royale all day amongst fellow competitors and held off multi-time winner Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake) to emerge victorious.  As a result, he collects the $15,000 winner’s cheque and will see his name added to the hallowed Scott Fraser Memorial Cup with former Scotia Speedworld 250 winners.

2023 Summer Clash winner Dylan Blenkhorn (Truro) finished third, Robbie MacEwen (Charlottetown, PE) was fourth, followed by Gage Gilby (Enfield, NS).

While the victory was MacDonald’s first on the Pro Stock Tour, he has won several notable events in the U.S. including a CARS tour race in North Carolina and a PASS race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. His grandfather and car owner is racing legend Rollie MacDonald who was in attendance to enjoy the win with his son David, car chief, and Austin.

Seeing his name added to the Scott Fraser Memorial Cup is especially meaningful to Austin MacDonald as Scott Fraser drove for Rollie MacDonald for many years and was a close family friend.

The Summer Clash 250 saw 16 cautions and took two hours and four minutes to complete. The race was originally scheduled for Saturday (Aug 11) but was postponed to Sunday due to rain.

Craig Slaunwhite (Terence Bay, NS) sat on the pole for Summer Clash 250 after setting a blistering speed of 14.137 in the Top Construction Time Trials. Greg Proude (Springvale, PE) was also on the front row after turning the second fastest lap.  The remaining teams competed in Atlantic Tiltload Heat Races. Blenkhorn, Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB), and Nicholas Naugle (Dartmouth, NS) won their respective races, setting the field for the Summer Clash 250.

Slaunwhite and Proude had mechanical issues in the early stages of the race and could not finish. Danny Chisholm (Antigonish, NS) accepted the Pole Challenge but was also out early due to mechanical problems.
