IWK 250 Super Weekend Planned for Sept 9-11 August 7, 2021 Regional JAMES RIVER, NS – The IWK 250 Super Weekend has been rescheduled for September 9 to 11 in anticipation of eased restrictions as Nova Scotia enters Phase 5 of its Reopening Plan. The signature event was originally scheduled for July 22-24 but postponed so as many fans as possible can attend what is a bucket list event for short track stock car racing fans all over North America. The weekend will kick off Thursday, September 9 with a late-afternoon IWK 250 practice session followed by the QwickWick Tailgate Party featuring Cape Breton’s party band, High Society. The practice session starts at 3:00 p.m. and the Tailgate Party will be underway by 8:00 p.m. On Friday, September 10, fans will be treated to the Henry’s AUTOPRO 100 for the NAPA Sportsman Series and the Passione Flooring East Coast Mini Stock Tour. Saturday, September 11 is the day stock car racing fans have waited over two years for. The IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis is a bucket list event for fans and racers alike. The last edition of the esteemed race was held in July 2019 with the 2020 version canceled due to COVID-19. The IWK 250 guarantees $10,000.00 to the winner plus the leader of each sponsored lap receives a $50 per lap bonus. It attracts the biggest names in short track stock car racing in the region and beyond, all vying for their share of the $80,000.00+ purse and to see their name engraved on the John W. Chisholm Memorial Cup. Besides the prestige and big money that accompanies winning the event, the IWK 250 is a championship points race for the East Coast International Pro Stock Tour. Maine’s Cassius Clark is the defending champion of the IWK 250, piloting the Pictou-based King Racing No. 13 to Victory Lane in 2019. The IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis has raised more than $500,000.00 for the IWK Foundation since its inception in 2007. Fans at Riverside on Saturday, September 11 will also see the Maritime League of Legends with heat races and a 50-lap feature. Green flag for the IWK 250 is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on September 11; qualifying heat races for both divisions get underway at 2:30 p.m., followed by a pro stock last chance race (if necessary) and the opening ceremony for the IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis. The IWK 250 Super Weekend will also see the first-ever IWK 250 Hot Laps, a fundraiser for the IWK Foundation in which fans can drive their street vehicle around the popular 1/3-mile high-banked oval. Hot Laps details and registration information will be announced very soon. Tickets for the IWK 250 Super Weekend will be available the week of August 23 with capacity and COVID-19 protocols pending Nova Scotia’s Public Health directives for September. Important IWK 250 camping information: · Advance reservations are required; no drive-ups. · Campsite reservations issued for July 22-24 are valid September 9-11. · Those with reservations are reminded the RV campsites are intended for RV use only, and tent campsites are intended for tents only. · Fans who are unable to attend or anyone with extra sites are asked to notify the track so the sites can be filled by other campers. Refunds will be issued as follows: o 100% if notification received by August 20. o 50% if notification is received by September 3, and the site is resold. · Sites that do not have an RV or tent checked in this year, and for which the track has not received notification by September 3, may not be available for renewal in 2022. · Due to the large number of site reservations transferred from 2020, a limited supply of sites are available for new reservations and will be filled as available. · Forms for campsite notifications and new reservations are at www.RiversideSpeedway/event/camping. Due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 and cross-border travel regulations, a decision in regard to a guest celebrity driver for this year will be made closer to the event. Either way, the Cat Car for Kids, sponsored by Toromont Cat, will be on the entry list for the IWK 250 with the driver TBA. Riverside International Speedway is back in action on August 21 for the Summer Sizzler featuring the Wilson Equipment Twin 75s for the East Coast International Pro Stock Tour and the Henry’s AUTOPRO 75 for the NAPA Sportsman Series. Both races are qualifying events for the IWK 250 Super Weekend with two guaranteed starting spots for each division, one for each feature winner and one for each division determined by a random draw among the other entries on August 21. Fans can join the Summer Sizzler ticket pre-sale waitlist by visiting www.RiversideSpeedway.ca/event/schedule. Management thanks fans, racers, sponsors, staff, and service providers for their continued support as we wind through what are (hopefully) the final laps of the COVID-19 pandemic, and encourage everyone to be vaccinated at their earliest convenience so things get back on track (yes, pun intended) sooner than later.
