Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 11 FedEx Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series underwent scheduled knee surgery on Monday. The surgery repaired a torn ACLin the driver’s right knee, suffered in September while Hamlin was playing basketball. Hamlin was able to continue driving without missing any races. This is Hamlin’s second ACL surgery; he had a torn ACL in his left knee in 2010, also a result of playing basketball. Hamlin’s JGR teammate and newly crowned NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion will also undergo offseason surgery to remove plates and pins from his right leg and left foot – a result of injuries sustained in Busch’s devastating crash at Daytona in the NASCAR Xfinity Series season opener in February. Busch’s surgery will be after the Sprint Cup Series Championship Week being celebrated in Las Vegas this week.
