CNAF KidsRace Up Next for Petty Int’l Raceway June 7, 2018 Regional RIVER GLADE, NB – After an exciting weekend that saw the biggest sanctioning body of Super Late Models in North America invade River Glade, New Brunswick, Petty International Raceway is once again alive with racing action. The Canadian National Autism Foundation’s (CNAF) KidsRace presented by Acura of Moncton will see stock car racing in five unique stock car divisions on Saturday, June 9th with the green flag going in the air at 6 pm. Three house divisions, the Mister Transmission Mini Stock, Westwood Estates Street Stock and A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman, will see extended distance races on Saturday evening. The Westwood Estates Street Stocks are the spotlight class as they will kick off their Westwood Estates Triple Crown. The Triple Crown consists of three extended distances races including Saturday’s 100-lap feature, a 75 lap feature during the August 4th running of the Caleb Dunn Memorial and a 75-lap finale at the Mike Stevens Memorial on September 21st. A point tally will be kept with the one who amasses the most points over the three-race miniseries being crowned as the champion. The 2017 winner of the Westwood Estates Triple Crown for the Street Stock division was also the season-long champion. After suffering from fuel issues during the Season Opener, Logan Power (Riverview) was poised to take the checkered flag last Sunday before a tap from behind coming to the checkered flag from Michael Cormier (Grand Barachois) sent him for a spin in the final corner on the last lap. It allowed 2017 runner-up Nick Cudmore (Petitcodiac) to score his first win of the season and subsequently vault him into the point lead after two races. Rookie, Brandon Carter (Moncton) had a big second place showing during the Atlantic Fleet Completion Centre 150 weekend and has taken a lead in the freshman standings in the class over Scott “Habby” Habkirk (Petitcodiac), John Collins (Amherst, NS) and J.R. Lawson (Shubenacadie, NS). Regulars Curtis Moase (Riverview) and Merv Lemon (Moncton) are among those looking to land on the podium after the 100-lap test of man and machine. Kenny MacKenzie Jr. (Salisbury) is expected to do double duty again on Saturday between the No. 55 Street Stock and his No. 85 Late Model Sportsman. A number of traveling cars are expected to make Petty International Raceway a stop on Saturday, including Season Opener winner Alex Sheehan (Oyster Bed Bridge, PE), two-time New Brunswick track champion Luc McLaughlin (Geary) and six-time Scotia Speedworld Truck champion Dan Smith (Lower Sackville, NS). A complete entry list was unavailable at press time, but it is expected the track will see the biggest Street Stock field seen in the Maritimes thus far in 2018. Brady Creamer (Miramichi) broke through last Sunday for his first win of the year in the A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman division. Creamer will enter the third race of the year with an eight point lead on veteran and Season Opener winner Laurie Cormier (Riverview). Porter’s Lake, Nova Scotia’s Jordan Veinotte is third in the standings with former track champion Luc Bourgeois (Memramcook) and local favorite Neal Crawford (Salisbury) completing the top five. Reigning titlist Mackenzie is knocking on the door of the top five as he’ll enter Saturday’s 75-lap feature in sixth in the championship chase. With 13 cars competing in both races so far in 2018 and 50-laps on the board on Saturday night, the Mister Transmission Mini Stock division may be the most intriguing race during the CNAF KidsRace presented by Acura of Moncton. Patricia Taylor (Salisbury) is the only driver to record podium feature finishes in both races, including a win during the Season Opening Weekend in May. With her performance in the opening two races, she paces the standings with “part time” driver and teammate Mike Weagle (Salisbury) second. Rob Poirier (Irishtown) recovered from a rough opening feature to 2018 to win during the undercard of the Atlantic Fleet Completion Centre 150 last Sunday. The win pulled him into a fourth place tie with Rob Boutilier (Quispamsis) early in the championship conversation. Wedged in the middle of the top five of the standings is Chantel Ackles (Shubenacadie, NS). Ackles, who missed most of last season due to knee surgery, recorded a career high second place finish in the main feature last Sunday afternoon and will look to crack open the door to victory lane with extra laps on the table this Saturday. Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, NS) maintained his perfect record at Petty International Raceway in feature competition last Sunday by winning his second consecutive main event in the Leisure Days/CRC RV Bandolero division. Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River, NS) shadows the reigning champion in the second place point position after two events while a podium run last weekend by Danny Chisholm (Canning, NS) has placed the youngster third after two events. Bandit Owen Mahar (Hubley, NS) and sophomore driver Evan Lane (Salisbury) round out the top five drivers in the division heading into their third point event of the year. Casie Skidmore (Springhill, NS) scored a popular win in the Season Opener for the Kings County Performance Beginner Four Cylinder class. Skidmore tops the point standings heading into the second of five races in the class over Paula Evans and Ashley Campbell. Please note Kids Race is not an actual race, it is just a name the CNAF uses to brand their events at race tracks across the country. On track action will be the same as every other Petty International Raceway event. Grandstand admission prices for Saturday’s events are $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 18, while children seven years of age and under will be admitted free. Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Pit gates for competitors open at 2pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 4pm with racing getting underway at 6pm.
