Cape Breton Speedway Hosts Back to School Special on Saturday August 27, 2015 Regional SYDNEY, NS – Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway is back in action this Saturday with the fourth of five events on their 2015 season and free grandstand admission and giveaways for students this Saturday. The show will feature three divisions: the NAPA Sportsman Series, Cape Breton Trailer Sales Street Stock and Atlantic Cat/Hewitt Rentals Mini Stocks – all racing for valuable championship points and the coveted checkered flag. Racing action gets underway at 3 p.m Sydney’s Kyle Reid leads the NAPA Sportsman Series into competition this Saturday. Reid took the point lead from Darren Price of Main-a-Dieu, who now sits a slim two points out of the championship lead with just three races remaining in the season. The Gillis Home Hardware 100 will be key for drivers like Shawn Waterfield (Sydney) and leading rookie Joey Rudderham (Marion Bridge) if they want to put themselves into championship contention late in the season. The two sit third and fourth, respectively, but one bad race could spell trouble for their 2015 championship dreams. The Cape Breton Trailer Sales Street Stock division continues to grow as the season progresses, which will make it harder for Vance MacDonald (Sydney) to defend his 30 point lead with two races to go over John Halliday (Sydney). Halliday cannot rest either with Jeff Adamsson (Lower L’Ardoise) just 12 points back heading into Saturday’s 25 lap feature presented by Saf-way Auto Parts. The #81 car usually driven by Shubenacadie’s JR Lawson in the Atlantic Cat/Hewitt Rentals Mini Stock class will be in attendance on Saturday to defend its point lead, but it will not be Lawson behind the wheel. Lawson will have two-time and defending Scotia Speedworld Thunder champion Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) at the wheel of his #81 581 Motorsports Honda. Matthews will be a teammate to third place point driver Kyle MacMillan (Dartmouth). Kody Quinn (Glace Bay) is sandwiched between the two teammates in second in the standings, just a slim eight markers out of the top spot. Brandon MacMillan (Glace Bay) and Colin Nickerson will be looking to make up some ground in the standings with just two races remaining in the season. The last Ramsay’s Honda 50 for the Four Cylinder class on August 1st saw sophomore driver Art McNamara (Cleveland) lead 46 of the 50 laps in the feature before an incident took him out of contention and put the lead and ultimately the win in Lawson’s hands. One race remains at Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway following Saturday’s Back to School Shootout. The season finale is slated for Saturday, September 26th and will see champions crowned in the NAPA Sportsman Series, Cape Breton Trailer Sales Street Stock and Atlantic Cat/Hewitt Rentals Mini Stock divisions. Complete information on the final event at the Sydney oval will be available as the event nears. Grandstand admission this week is $20 for adults over the age of 19, with free admission for students aged 13 to 18 and children 12 and under. Pit admission is $25 and restricted to those 18 years and older.
