Big Show on Deck for River Glade International Saturday at Petty August 13, 2020 Regional Steeped in history, one of the oldest stock car races in Canada will take to the track this Saturday at Petty International Raceway in River Glade, New Brunswick. The 56th running of the River Glade International presented by Jones Auto Body will see over 50 competitors between the Pro Stock and Sportsman divisions battle it out to etch their name in history as a River Glade International champion. The Legend, Leisure Days RV Bandolero, and the Heart of a Champion Hot Rod Classics will complete a busy Saturday evening of racing. The action starts with qualifying at 6 p.m. Twenty-nine drivers have signaled their intentions to compete in the Pro Stock portion of the 56th Jones Auto Body River Glade International. The car count is the highest seen for the event since the event came to Petty International Raceway in 2011. Of those drivers, only four have won the Pro Stock portion of the event in the past, including two time winners Jonathan Hicken (Brudenell, PE) and Craig Slaunwhite (Terence Bay, NS) along with 2011 winner Kent Vincent (Crapaud, PE) and 2013 winner Shawn Tucker (Fredericton, NB). Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) and Russell Smith Jr (Lakeside, NS) are both former two-time Sportsman winners of the event that will compete in the Pro Stock 150 on Saturday. Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton, NB) is holding the hottest hand of any driver in the Late Model scene in the Province of New Brunswick. Tucker won the Brycon Construction Bubble Buster Round Two at Petty International Raceway and has won the last three extended distance Pro Stock races at Speedway 660. Among those was the first of four races in the Petty Raceway and Speedway 660 Pro Stock Series, the Best of the Best Pro Stock 150 last Saturday night. Tucker finished ahead of Lonnie Sommerville (Barnesville, NB) and two-time Pro Stock Tour champion Cole Butcher (Hantsport, NS) in the first round of the newly formed series between the two tracks. Sommerville debuted his new Rowdy Manufacturing car last weekend and the No. 23 is slated to make its way to Petty International Raceway this Saturday night. Some familiar faces will be making their first starts of the season at Petty International Raceway and one driver will be making their Pro Stock debut. Former Scotia Speedworld Sportsman Champion Matt Vaughan (Bedford, NS) will make his first run in the iconic No. 0 Dexter Construction Chevrolet on Saturday. Slated to be his first full season with the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour after two-time River Glade International Champion Shawn Turple (Enfield, NS) retired from full time competition at the end of 2019, this will be Vaughan’s debut with not only the team but in a Pro Stock car. Vaughan has several starts at Petty International Raceway, most recently with a sixth place run during the August 1st AE McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman race. Reigning RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock Champion Brent Roy (Hanwell, NB) also makes his return for the first time in seven years to Petty International Raceway. Roy is a three-time track champion at Speedway 660 and was last at Petty International Raceway when he was a full time Sportsman competitor. Speaking of former champions, Randy Millar (Freeland, PE) will make his first Pro Stock start of 2020 at the Jones Auto Body River Glade International. Sportsman standout Ryan VanOirschot (Antigonish, NS) will pilot the Ace in the Hole special in his first Petty Pro Stock start on Saturday evening.
