Big Payouts for Sportsman & Street Stock Saturday at Petty August 5, 2021 Regional The pay window will open in a big way for two teams Saturday evening, August 7th at Petty International Raceway! Stuff Your Stuff Storage and Old Fashion Meat Market present two $5,000-to-win, 100-lap feature events – one for the A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman and one for the Street Stock division on the high banked bullring. The Legend, Kings County Performance Women on Wheels, and Leisure Days RV Bandolero divisions will play support to the big money races. The action gets underway on Saturday at 6 pm with Time Trial qualifying for both Street Stocks and the A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman. Over $20,000 is in the purse for the Old Fashion Meat Market Late Model Sportsman 100 on Saturday evening, including the $5,000 to the winner. A stout field of 31 drivers has signaled their intent to compete in the event with several past champions, race winners, and big names scattered on the entry list. Laurie Cormier (Riverview, NB) is the most recent winner at the track, taking home the River Glade International in July over Deven Smith (Lakeside, NS) and Russell Smith Jr. (Lakeside, NS). The trio is all familiar with victory lane at Petty Raceway and would love nothing more to etch their name in the record books with a $5,000 payday. Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) holds one of the hottest hands in Sportsman competition throughout the province since the green flag dropped on 2021. O’Blenis won the first race of the season at Speedway 660 in May, won during Christmas in July, and followed that up last weekend with the win in the track’s Firecracker 150. The No. 74 visited victory lane at Petty International Raceway in June during a 75-lap feature and will look to add $5,000 to her bank account on Saturday evening. The talent pool is deep and wide for this race. Justin Beers (Moncton, NB) has a Caleb Dunn Memorial title to his credit, Brady Creamer (Miramichi, NB) and Kenny MacKenzie Jr (Salisbury, NB) have each lit the lamp numerous times in pressure-packed situations at Petty International Raceway and Marcel LeBlanc (Bouctouche, NB) will look to cash a $5,000 cheque on Saturday. Both Matt Rodgers (Smithtown, NB) and Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB) will look to make good on their first Sportsman starts of the season at Petty Raceway. Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake, NS) can never be counted out in big races at Petty International Raceway. The former track champion, River Glade International, and Mike Stevens Memorial winner will have to be on his game to crack a $5,000 payday off and take it back across the Tantramar Marsh. He is not the only Nova Scotian driver looking for that same goal as almost half of the entry list hails from Canada’s Ocean Playground. In addition, the Smith Brothers and Veinotte – Pete Miller (Kennetcook, NS), Darren Wallage (Oakfield, NS) are former Scotia Speedworld track champions while Travis Roma (West Chezzetcook, NS), Richard Salter (Centre Burlington, NS), Wayne Miller (Kennetcook, NS) and Alex Johnson (Enfield, NS) have won feature events in Halifax. Hauling from Cape Breton to River Glade on the weekend include East Coast International Pro Stock Tour driver Chris Reid and Sportsman standouts Ronald MacKay and Lynden MacDougall. Simply put, as it has been by several teams this week, this is anyone’s race to be had, and would be impossible to capsulize the deep field in one pre-race advance. If necessary, based on car count, a B Main would be run to trim the field down. Three drivers have raced to victory lane in the Street Stock division at Petty International Raceway in as many races so far this season, led by reigning track champion Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB). While Cormier hasn’t held a checkered flag in feature competition since June, the perennial favorite every time the Street Stock class hits the track has finished second in the last two races to Evan Lane (Salisbury, NB) and Mike Weagle (Steeves Mountain, NB). Much like the $5k Old Fashion Meat Market Late Model Sportsman 100, the $5K Stuff Your Stuff Storage Street Stock 100 has an entry list deep in talent. While Cormier, River Glade International winner Weagle and Lane may be near the top of the list when it comes to favorites based on their early returns in 2021, they will have their hands completely full with nearly 20 cars making a run on Saturday. If we’re looking for drivers with hardware this season, Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen, NB), Kenny MacKenzie Jr (Salisbury, NB) and Brad MacLean (Black River, NB) all have podium finishes in one of the three Street Stock races contested at the track this season. Miramichi drivers James Matchett and Darcy O’Neill have each won at their home track in 2021. Reigning Miramichi track champion Bryar Ellis (Janeville, NB) is slated to make his 2021 debut at Petty International Raceway this weekend while former Petty track titlist Logan Power (Riverview, NB) will dust off his Streeter for a run at $5,000 on Saturday. Brandon Albert (Miscouche, PE) and Mitchell Arsenault (Summerside, PE) will make the haul across the Confederation Bridge to cash in on a big payday. Arsenault finished third during the Mike Stevens Memorial Weekend in 2020 while Albert was second to Cormier during the August 1st, 2020 event at the track and is a winner this season at Oyster Bed Speedway.
