Rain Cancels Speedway 660 Sunday Show July 4, 2021 Regional (July 4, 2021 / 7:30 a.m.) Mother Nature has been persistent in her efforts to keep racers off the track at Speedway 660 this weekend. After a mist lingered most of the day on Saturday, rain began in the early hours of the morning Sunday and is not forecast to move out of the area until late tonight, forcing officials to call off Sunday’s rescheduled Late Model Sportsman 150. The next event at Speedway 660 is Saturday, July 17th when the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stocks will highlight the popular Christmas in July event with a 150-lap feature. The race is the longest event on the Pro Stock schedule at the Geary, New Brunswick track outside of the Pro Stock 250 on Labour Day Weekend. The DMR Auto Street Stock and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters will play support to the Pro Stock 150. Christmas In July gets underway at 6:30 pm on Saturday, July 17th. Wet Forecast Postpones Speedway 660 Show to Sunday (July 3, 2021) – Due to a worsening forecast throughout the late afternoon and evening on Saturday night, officials at Speedway 660 have made the difficult decision to postpone the Late Model Sportsman 150 card to Sunday, July 4th with a start time of 2 pm. Officials are hopeful for a better forecast on Sunday that allows racing to take place. The Sunday card will include a 150-lap, $1,500 to win Late Model Sportsman feature along with point racing action in the DMR Auto Street Stock and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters. A detailed race day format will be released later in the day. Sportsman Class Featured Saturday at Speedway 660 (July 2, 2021) – Speedway 660 returns to action with a second consecutive weekend of stock car racing action. The Geary, New Brunswick will turn its attention to the Late Model Sportsman division as they will race 150-laps around the 1/3-mile in their first extended distance race of the 2021 season. Billed as one of the longest Sportsman races in the Province this season, the race is expected to draw out-of-town cars to compete for the checkered flag and $1,500 payday. The Late Model Sportsman 150 is supported by the DMR Auto Street Stocks and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters. Racing begins on Saturday, July 3rd at 6:30 pm. Should inclement weather interfere on Saturday, there is a rain date set aside for Sunday, July 4th at 2 pm. If the first two races in the Late Model Sportsman class at Speedway 660 can be used as a sample size, fans are in for a thrilling showcase on Saturday night. On paper, it is two familiar faces to Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane that have feature victories in 2021 in Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) and Richard Atkinson (Geary, NB) but the two had to earn their victories with late race passes. For O’Blenis, it came down to navigating a spinning Luc McLaughlin (Geary, NB) and her sister Courtney O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB). Last Saturday night, Atkinson ran down Curtis Collins (Barnesville, NB) in the late laps and spent eight laps side-by-side with the No. 27 before taking the upper hand on the last lap of the 40-lap feature. In short, both races have seen exciting finishes and each have been decided in the last half lap. With some extra laps and money hanging in the balance on Saturday, this is sure to be the third exciting installment in the Speedway 660 story for 2021. The DMR Auto Street Stocks are led into battle by Riley Goodwin. The McAdam, New Brunswick driver has finished second in every race he has entered this season, which includes heats and features. It results in a 17 point advantage in the standings over sophomore driver Tristin Harris (Harvey, NB). The former Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter champion began racing Street Stocks in 2020 and sits just three points ahead of another Four Cylinder graduate in Caleb Urquhart (Charter Settlement, NB). Nick Cudmore (Petitcodiac, NB) and Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen, NB) took home the two feature victories so far this season in DMR Auto Street Stock competition. BJ Gillespie (Harvey, NB) and Randy Titus (French Lake, NB) pace the field in Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters competition. Gillespie, who won during the Riverview Ford Lincoln Season Opener, has a seven point advantage on Titus heading into the third show of the year. Last time out, Malcolm Suley (Clarendon, NB) was the winner of last Saturday night’s feature that saw 26 starters. With two races under the belt, the third stanza of the 2021 season for the four cylinders should be a showcase as the Sharp Shooters dial in their cars for the Summer stretch! The RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division is idle this week but will return during Christmas in July on Saturday, July 17th with a 150-lap feature! The admission structure makes it easier for families to attend race events at the track and received positive feedback from fans when implemented mid-season in 2017. Adult grandstand admission price for Saturday night’s racing card is $20 (aged 16 and up). Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Pit gates for competitors will open at 1pm on Saturday, grandstand gates open for spectators at 5pm with racing getting underway at 6:30pm.
