Weekend Format Revised at Sydney Speedway October 9, 2020 Regional Sydney Speedway officials have announced a slight shift in format for the Thanksgiving Thunder based on the predicted weather forecast. The Robby’s Tractor Trailer Sportsman 100 has been moved from Sunday, October 11th to Saturday, October 10th to guarantee the event runs this weekend. A third feature, weather and time permitting, for the Northside Tax Services Legends, Ramsay’s Honda Mini Stocks and Dulux Paints Bayers Lake Bandoleros, have been added to the end of the Saturday card. The Sunday, October 11th format will see bonus features for the Robby’s Tractor Trailer Sportsman and PPM Inc. Street Stocks, along with double features for the Northside Tax Services Legends, Ramsay’s Honda Mini Stocks and Dulux Paints Bayers Lake Bandoleros. Both Saturday and Sunday have a start time of 1pm. Should Sunday’s racing events be rained out, the Thanksgiving Thunder weekend would be considered completed if all of Saturday’s racing is ran. A limited amount of fan passes will be on sale both days on a first come, first serve basis. Grandstand passes are $15 a person, pit passes (18 years of age and older) are $30 per day or $50 for a weekend pass. No weekend passes are being sold for the grandstand. Grandstand gates open at 11am both days. Several out of province teams are slated to compete against the strong local contingent for Thanksgiving Thunder glory in an unofficial “causeway clash.” Laurie Cormier (Riverview, NB) will defend his Robby’s Tractor Trailer Sportsman 100 title against the likes of former RE/MAX 250 winner Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB), Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB), Antigonish drivers Jeffrey Breen, Kevin Morse and Brad DeCoste and local Sydney area stars including Shawn Waterfield, Ronnie MacKay, Lynden MacDougall, Chris Reid and Darren Price. A potential $1,200 is on the line in the Ramsay’s Honda Mini Stock presented by Mackley Equipment should someone be able to sweep the weekend and keep Kody Quinn (Sydney, NS) from victory lane – a place where he has been the past 12 races. Brennan MacInnis (Glace Bay, NS) hopes to hold off the likes of six-time Maritime Late Model Touring champion Wayne Smith (River Glade, NB), Michael Cormier and a host of hungry local Street Stock drivers in the Poogie Hache Memorial 52. A field of six Dulux Paints Bayers Lake Bandoleros are entered for the Thanksgiving Thunder weekend with Brooke Dowe (Bedford, NS) having won the first five races for the class in 2020 at Sydney.
