Modified Champion to be Crowned Saturday at Speedway Miramichi September 30, 2020 Regional The Atlantic Modified Tour will crown their 2020 champion on Saturday afternoon at Speedway Miramichi in Miramichi, New Brunswick. The Keswick Kitchen Season Finale, a part of The Very Best Fall Shootout, will see the title change hands after a 35-lap feature on the North Shore oval. The action-packed day of racing begins at 2pm on Saturday, October 3rd. Yves McCray (Neguac, NB) enters the Keswick Kitchen Season Finale with a 20 point lead over sophomore driver Travis Conroy (Miramichi, NB). The math is simple, McCray can clinch his first Atlantic Modified Tour championship with a second place finish or better, regardless what Conroy or the rest of the field does on Saturday. While the clinch scenario may sound simple for the No. 58 team, it may be easier said than done. After McCray won the Krown Rust Control 35 at Speedway 660, he has finishes of seventh in the Fairley’s Sports Bar 35 at Speedway Miramichi and a tenth place finish at the Krown Rust Control 50 at Petty Raceway. While McCray’s lead is comfortable, the runner-up spot in the Atlantic Modified Tour standings is far from decided. Conroy leads Kevin Bailey (Minto, NB) by three points with Zean Dutcher (Miramichi, NB) and Braxton Stafford (Blackville, NB) tied for fourth, one point behind Bailey. With championship dreams still alive for the quartet, a second place finish in points along with a checkered flag in the Keswick Kitchen Season Finale are sure to be prominent on the agenda heading into Saturday. After a slow start to the 2020 season, Joe Hoyt (Waasis, NB) has had one of the hottest hands over the last two races. Hoyt has a win at Speedway Miramichi and a second place finish at Petty International Raceway in the last two races. The No. 17 Keswick Kitchen Modified enters 37 points out of McCray for the championship lead. With a championship mathematically attainable but realistically a long shot, Hoyt will look to finish the season off with a sweep of features at Speedway Miramichi on Saturday. Please note, should a tiebreaker be needed to determine a champion, the tie would be broken by the driver with the most feature wins followed by most wins on the season (combined heats and features). Brandon Skidmore’s (Springhill, NS) title reign will come to an end on Saturday. After missing the second Speedway 660 race due to engine issues, the No. 84 finds itself seventh in the standings. Following a fourth place finish at the Krown Rust Control 50, Skidmore will hope to race his way to a podium finish to close 2020. Steven Curtis (South Esk, NB) and Kim Hallihan (Renous, NB) are also looking to avenge mechanical failures of their own on Saturday. Curtis fought transmission related issues at the last event at Speedway Miramichi while Hallihan had an early exit from the Krown Rust Control 50 two weeks ago due to a driveshaft failure at Petty Raceway. Both drivers call Speedway Miramichi home and would like nothing else to cap a dismal 2020 with a checkered flag in their proverbial back yard. Michael Savoie (Miramichi, NB) will make his Atlantic Modified Tour debut Saturday during the Keswick Kitchen Season Finale. Savoie is a former winner in the Mini Stock division at Speedway Miramichi and will rely on the experience around his home town track on his maiden voyage with the series. The last driver to win in their first Atlantic Modified Tour start was August 2020 when Logan Power (Riverview, NB) won the CannaConnect 35 at Petty Raceway.
