GEARY, NB – Speedway 660 will see two big days of racing this weekend with the first Double Header Weekend of the 2020 season. The second day of action will be highlighted by the DMR Auto Street Stocks as they take to the track for 75-laps presented by Urquhart Construction. The Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter divisions will play support on Sunday afternoon. The green flag goes in the air on Sunday, August 9 at 2 pm.

Early indications have that the Urquhart Construction 75 could see the biggest car count of Street Stocks at one event to date in 2020. Twenty drivers have indicated to Speedway 660 officials that they are preparing their race cars for Sunday’s extended distance race. While quantity is nice, the field is deep with talent from across the Province giving fans the quality of a SpeedWeekend or a Ricky Bobby field in the middle of August.

After two races in the DMR Auto Street Stock division at Speedway 660, it has been the story of youth versus experience at the front. Rick Cashol (Saint John, NB) took six decades of experience back to Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane on Opening Day, holding off a hungry field of Street Stock drivers looking to pop the top on 2020. One of those was Riley Goodwin (McAdam, NB), who went to victory lane during Fog City Auto Spa Night on July 25th. Goodwin also has a win at Petty International Raceway to his credit and is the only driver to win features at multiple tracks in 2020 in Street Stock competition.

Two drivers that have been dominant at their home tracks will look to race into Speedway 660 and come out with a checkered flag. Both Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB) and Chris Wilson (South Esk, NB) are reigning track champions at their home facilities but will look for their first feature wins outside home soil on Sunday. Cormier is a two-time winner at Petty International Raceway, taking the last two victories at the River Glade, New Brunswick bullring. Wilson has swept Street Stock competition thus far at Speedway Miramichi and will look to carry that momentum from McKinnon Road to the Geary woods.

Speaking of champions, Chris Hanley (St. Stephen, NB) is the reigning DMR Auto Street Stock champion and will look to bring his No. 71 to the front on Sunday afternoon. He won’t be alone as a former track titlist looking to defend Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane. In addition to Cashol and Hanley, Roger Slocum (Chipman, NB) has also climbed the season long mountain as a track champion at Speedway 660.

That only scratches the surface of the talent assembling for Sunday’s Urquhart Construction 75. Proven winners in the Maritimes like Justin Cole (Harvey, NB), James Matchett (Miramichi, NB), Brandon Carter (Moncton, NB), Brad MacLean (Black River, NB), Vance McMillan (Saint John, NB) and Chuck Mercer (Saint John, NB) are sure to be contenders in the race before Tim Elliott drops the checkered flag.

The freshman crop at Speedway 660 is strong this year with reigning Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters champion Tristian Harris (Harvey, NB) leading a crew that includes Caleb Urquhart (Fredericton, NB), Matt Martin (Haneytown, NB) and Ryan Bernard (Fredericton, NB). They’ll be joined by experience in Luke Dukeshire (Moncton, NB), Nick Cadger (Rothesay, NB), Scott Habkirk (Salisbury, NB) and Shawn Furlong (Moncton, NB), who hope to make some noise when the chips are down on Sunday and walk away with an Urquhart Construction 75 trophy!

Coming off the Fog City Auto Spa 125, the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division are set for a Sunday showdown. Matt Rodgers (Smithtown, NB) was the big winner two weeks ago with Curtis Collins (Saint John, NB) and Richard Atkinson (Haneytown, NB) chasing him to the line. With the close competition in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division, whoever races to the win will have to be on the top of their game on Sunday.

The Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters will compete in their second race of the weekend on Sunday. With the Fairview Jeep Ram Gunslinger 50 next up on the schedule following the Double Header Weekend, several teams will use this weekend to their benefit as a test session. It is not lost on any competitor either that heading into the weekend, BJ Gillespie (Harvey, NB) is perfect in feature competition at his home track, scoring two wins in two events so far in 2020. With Randy Titus (French Lake, NB) holding two podium finishes to Gillespie’s checkered flags in two races along with Randy Storey (Royal Road, NB) and Malcolm Suley (Clarendon, NB) with two top fives to their credits, they are knocking on the door of Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane waiting for someone to answer.
