Legends Tour on Championship Stretch Run Starting Saturday August 1, 2019 Regional BEDFORD, NS – The Maritime League of Legends Tour will embark on a stretch of five consecutive race weekends that ultimately will help crown a 2019 champion beginning Saturday. The Tim’s Corner Motorsports 50 at Oyster Bed Speedway is the fifth of ten rounds on the Maritime League of Legends Tour for 2019. The INEX-sanctioned Legend event is a part of the Lucas Oil 150 festivities at the Island oval. Racing begins on Saturday, August 3rd at 6 pm. Braden Langille (Shubenacadie, NS) carries a hot hand heading across the Confederation Bridge. Langille has won two of the first four Maritime League of Legends Tour events on 2019, was second in the first Island appearance for the Tour in July and was third at the Schooner General Contracting 50 at Riverside International Speedway. Langille picked up two wins last weekend, racing to an INEX-sanctioned win at Scotia Speedworld and a win at this Saturday’s host venue in open Legend competition. Langille leads the Maritime League of Legends Tour standings by 11 heading into a critical stretch of five races in five weekends in August. Second in the standings is Island ICF Incorporated 50 winner Craig MacDonald (Waverley, NS). MacDonald finished second at Riverside to Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB) and with Hall opting to not compete after damage to his car last weekend, it opens the door for MacDonald, a Cory Hall Racing teammate, to swing for the Island sweep. Langille and MacDonald have a gap on the field in the standings after four rounds. It is a 24 point drop from MacDonald to Emily Meehan (Rawdon, NS). Nine points behind Meehan is reigning Series champion Shelby Baker (Fall River, NS) with top Master Darren Sherwood (Cambridge-Narrows, NB) completing the top five in the standings. The Rookie of the Year Standings is tight, with just three points between Devin Gallant (Rustico, PE) and Devin Wadden (Hammonds Plains, NS) after the Schooner General Contracting 50. With freshman drivers able to count their best seven races towards the Rookie title, it is not out of the question to see Danny Chisholm (Canning, NS) in the equation by the end of August. Chisholm experienced motor issues in his car at Riverside Speedway and then found rear-end issues in an INEX-sanctioned event at Sydney Speedway last Sunday after winning the Colbourne Auto Group INEX National Qualifier in Cape Breton last weekend. A handful of Island drivers will be looking to defend their home turf for the second and final time this season against the best drivers in the region. In addition to Gallant, Kyle McEachern, Ron Savidant and Josh Morrison have competed on the Series in 2019 with Gary Dunning awaiting a new motor for his car. They will all be looking to keep the Tim’s Corner Motorsports 50 hardware on Prince Edward Island this weekend. The Tim’s Corner Motorsports 50 is the fifth of ten events on the 2019 season for the Maritime League of Legends Tour. Also included on the Saturday card is the eighth round for the Maritime Pro Stock Tour as they contest a 150-lap feature presented by Lucas Oil. The house division Street Stock and Bandolero classes will play support to the two Touring Series. Racing action gets underway with qualifying races for feature events at 6 pm. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Following Saturday’s Tim’s Corner Motorsports 50, the Maritime League of Legends Tour will return to Nova Scotia for two events. Scotia Speedworld will host the Series on Saturday, August 10th as a part of the 20th Annual Toromont Cat 250 before the Legend cars race back to Riverside International Speedway on Saturday, August 17th. The second stop to Riverside International Speedway will coincide with the NASCAR Pinty’s Series Bumper to Bumper 300. Two races in New Brunswick will close August, with stops at Petty International Raceway (Saturday, August 24th) and Speedway 660 (Saturday, August 31st).
