Petty Raceway Season Opener Postponed to May 25

(May 17, 2019) – This event has been postponed to May 25 due to a wet forecast and soggy grounds at the speedway. The format is exactly the same as posted for May 18.

(May 14, 2019) – One of the first signs of Summer is the first green flag on the pavement stock car racing calendar in Atlantic Canada. Petty International Raceway will not only get their Summer started on Saturday, May 18th but will kickstart a busy motorsports season in the region. The opening card for the year at Petty International Raceway will feature four divisions, headlined by the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour and the Lucas Oil 150, the first of 12 rounds on the popular Late Model touring series. The Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour, A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman and Street Stock classes will play support on the Victoria Day Weekend event. Post time for Saturday’s show is 4 pm.

With Brady Creamer (Miramichi) not scheduled to be in the field on Saturday for the A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman season opener, the championship battle will begin in this class as a wide-open fight. While Creamer won’t be behind the wheel Saturday, a number of Late Model heavyweights will be out in force to battle it out for the first checkered flag of the year. The 2017 track champion Kenny MacKenzie Jr (Salisbury), reigning River Glade International champion Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake, NS), Mike Stevens Memorial titlist Laurie Cormier (Riverview) and Caleb Dunn Memorial winner Justin Beers (Moncton) lead the field of winners into Saturday’s 60-lap feature.

Several Nova Scotia invaders will look to race their way into victory lane during the 2019 season’s lid-lifter. Deven Smith (Lakeside, NS) took the opportunity to shake his racecar down during last Saturday’s practice session while the likes of Ryan VanOirschot (Antigonish, NS) and Alex Johnson (Enfield) have their eyes on making a trip up Highway 104 to chase a checkered flag.

Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois) will begin the defense of his Street Stock division crown on Saturday but will be in tough once again this year. One of his biggest threats for the Street Stock championship may be sophomore Brandon Carter (Riverview). Coming off a season where he took home the NAPA Auto Parts Petitcodiac and Salisbury Rookie of the Year championship in the class, Carter will team up with Kevin McIntee for a run at the 2019 title in the No. 19 car. Carter tied in the overall point standings one year ago with Logan Power (Riverview), who will also be looking for the checkered flag on Saturday. Power is the 2017 champion of the Street Stock division and has a second title square in the crosshairs. Mike Duskey (Albany, PE) and NAPA Auto Parts Petitcodiac and Salisbury Rookie of the Year contender Trevor Smith (Windsor, NS) cut laps last Saturday during the open practice in advance of the 50-lap feature ahead on Saturday afternoon.

Entries for the two house division features continue to roll in as the event draws closer. With this being the first chance for Late Model Sportsman and Street Stock competitors to get race laps down before their home tracks open, Petty International Raceway is expecting a number of out of town cars on Saturday afternoon.

Please note that the Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour, A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman and Street Stock events will not run qualifying heat races on Saturday. Feature events for these divisions will be set by track and series procedures.

The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour and the Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour will also compete on Saturday. Complete information, including pre-race previews for Saturday, can be found on their respective web platforms.

The Lucas Oil 150 serves as the first race in the Bumper to Bumper Petty Pro Stock Challenge (PPSC). House points will be kept over the four Pro Stock/Super Late Model events at Petty International Raceway in 2019 with the top team over the four races receiving $3,000. Second and third place finishers will receive prizes courtesy of Lonnie Sommerville Racing and Petty International Raceway, respectively.

Grandstand admission prices for Saturday’s events at Petty International Raceway are $30 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 18, while children seven years of age and under will be admitted free. Pit admission is $35 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Grandstand gates open for spectators at 2pm with racing getting underway at 4pm. The Mister Transmission Mini Stock, Leisure Days RV Bandolero and Kings County Performance Women on Wheels house divisions will open their Petty International Raceway season on Saturday, June 1st. The Canadian National Autism Foundation (CNAF) Kids Race presented by Acura of Moncton will also feature point paying events for the A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman and Street Stock classes. The Atlantic Modified Tour will also be on the card for their first of five Petty International Raceway appearances in 2019.
