OYSTER BED BRIDGE, PE – The driver they call “Old Man” took it to the field on Saturday night to win his first Eastern Super Mini Cup Series feature at Oyster Bed Speedway.

Donnie “Old Man” MacNeill took home the win in the Byrne Plumbing 20 on Saturday night at his home track. MacNeill, who is known on Prince Edward Island for his Street Stock accomplishments among other accolades in his racing career, outlasted the field on a green-white-checkered finish.

Kirk Sheasgreen (Miramichi, NB), who battled early in the race for the lead with Chad Jackson (Montague, PE), put MacNeill and the No. 19 to the test during the final two laps to the finish. The Eastern Super Mini Cup Series veteran would wind up second with his No. 40 car with rookie Jacob Dunlop (Hampton, PE) joining Sheasgreen and MacNeill on the podium. For Dunlop, it was his second top three finish with the Series in as many races.

Mark Ferguson (Saint John, NB) won the heat race and semi but a spin during the Byrne Plumbing 20 put him behind and would wind up sixth on the evening.

The race was halted for an incident between Mike Wood and Jackson. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital following the race. Jackson was checked and released after the wreck while Wood sustained a broken kneecap, successfully had surgery and is expected to be released Monday.
