NASCAR officials have posted the penalty report from Kansas  Speedway this past weekend with two Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series teams on the list…

No. 42 – Driver Kyle Larson finished fourth for Chip Ganassi Racing

Infraction: Sections 20.4.h Body; 20.4.8.1.b&c Rear Window Support and Structure Note: Rear window not flush to Deck Lid. Rear Window Support Braces must keep the rear window glass rigid in all directions at all times. Rule 12.5.2.6.2(c) applied to race finish as a post-race L1 infraction.

Penalty: Crew chief (Chad Johnston) has been fined $50,000. Car chief (David Bryant) has been suspended from the next two Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Championship Points Events. Team has been assessed with the loss of 20 driver points and 20 owner points.

The team is adamant the damage occurred after contact with another car during the race but will not appeal the penalty choosing to focus on this weekend’s All Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Joey Logano’s No. 22 crew chief Todd Gordon was also hit with a $10,000 fine for a loose lug nut.

Larson’s rear window infraction is the latest in a rash of similar penalties this season; it is believed the shape may provide an aerodynamic advantage. NASCAR senior vice president Steve Miller spoke about the issue Tuesday on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio warning the sanctioning body is prepared to increase penalties if the problem persists.
