Speedworld Set for Second-Last Weekly Show on Season (Posted 9.9.15)

HALIFAX, NS – The championship chase is on for Scotia Speedworld’s Weekly Racing Series divisions. Just two races remain for the series and championship points will be top of mind for all classes. This week is AMP Energy Night featuring the Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros, Chickenburger Lightning, Strictly Hydraulics Legends, Coors Light Trucks and the Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman. Grandstands open at 5:00 PM with racing action slated for 7:00 PM.

The Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros will kick things off Friday Night. Josh Langille (Coldbrook) leads Austin MacDonald (Pictou) by 14 points in the Bandit division; the championship is boiling down to these two drivers in this young class. The Outlaw championship is a closer affair with four drivers within 33 points of leader Wyatt McCulloch (Stewiacke).

The Chickenburger Lightning return to the track Friday after having last week off. Devon Smith (Lakeside) leads his closest competitor, Scott Thibodeau (Williamswood) by 44 points and third place Marc MacMillan (Glenholm) by 82 points heading into AMP Energy Night.

The Strictly Hydraulics Legends championship chase is close between the top three. Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake) leads the way, followed by Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB) who is ten points behind and last week’s first time feature winner Paul Goulden (Shelburn) trials by just 12 points.

Dan Smith (Sackville) is vying for his fourth consecutive championship in the Coors Light Truck division, a feat that has never been accomplished by any driver in Scotia Speedworld’s 27 year history. Smith has a good shot at making the history books as he enters Amp Energy Night with a 34 point lead over Matt Vaughan (Lake Fletcher) and a 47 point advantage over Corey Leonard (Goodwood) who is currently third.

Russell Smith Jr has a comfortable lead in the Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman title battle. Smith has a 54 point lead over Pete Miller (Kennetcook) and 56 points on Phil Barkhouse (Hammonds Plains). The real battle will be for second and third in the Sportsman class as only 17 points separate second through eighth in this highly competitive class.
