GEARY, NB – Speedway 660 is ready to host it’s biggest weekend of the year featuring one of the most anticipated short track races in the region – the Irving Blending & Packaging Pro Stock 250 – and lots more. the weekend kicks off with Friday traditional corn boil, and then continues Saturday with the Irving I24 Sportsman 150, the ‘250’ on Sunday, and the ENDURO 200 on Monday afternoon.

“We’ve worked hard all season to prepare for SpeedWeekend and are ready to welcome fans, race teams and our marketing partners for an incredible four day event” said Speedway 660’s Max Roy. “There’s been a terrific response from race teams for the Sportsman and Pro Stock races and fans are going to see the best racing of the year this weekend.”

The Harvey’s Family Farms corn-boil, bonfire and infield concert kicks off the weekend at 7  p.m. on Friday. This popular free event for fans, campers, race teams and sponsors continues to attract large crowds every year. Recording artist Tristan Horncastle, who wowed race fans the last two years, is back by popular demand to play another show on Friday night.

Racing gets underway Saturday with qualifying heats for the Irving I24 Sportsman 150. Fans will also see the Westwood Estate Apartments Bandoleros and the Atlantic Modified Tour. There will be a lot of strong contenders in the Sportsman race including three-time winner Dave O’Blenis, the 2015 Martin’s Home Heating Champion Randy Moore, Lonnie Sommerville, Greg Fahey and a group of young drivers including Eastport, Maine’s Drew Greenlaw and the 2015 Sportsman Rookie of the Year Ryan Messer. Several visiting drivers will head to Speedway 660 for the Sportsman race as well.

Qualifying for the Irving Blending & Packaging 250 gets underway at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Fans will also see the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters and the DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stocks. Then, once qualifying is complete, the 250 takes the green flag at 7 p.m. Sunday. And on Monday at 2 p.m. the ENDURO Championship 200 wraps up an action packed SpeedWeekend.

A virtual who’s who from Speedway 660’s weekly Pro Stock Division, the Pro All Star Series and the Maritime Pro Stock Tour will attempt to qualify for the big race. Lonnie Sommerville, Speedway 660’s weekly Pro Stock Champion, will lead the local contingent of drivers. Johnny Clark, a five-time PASS champ, headlines drivers from south of the border, while John Flemming a five time Maritime Pro Stock Champ will lead a strong group of drivers from the Parts for Trucks Tour.

“2015 was the best season in a long time for Pro Stock racing at Speedway 660 and a lot of us feel some of our weekly race teams have a great chance to win this year’s 250” said Sommerville, the 2006 and 2009 Irving Blending & Packaging 250 winner. “It was an all-Maine podium last year and with all due respect to Travis Benjamin, Ben Rowe, Austin Theriault and the rest of the drivers from south of the border, we’re going to try to prevent that from happening this year.”

Benjamin, Rowe and Theriault dominated the 250 in 2014. They are all back for another run this year and are expected to be among the top contenders. With Cassius Clark, DJ Shaw and Johnny Clark also in the mix, the Americans will be hard to beat.

“You’ve got some great drivers at 660 and we know Lonnie, Dave O’Blenis, Greg Fahey, Kevin Moore and the guys coming in from the Maritime Tour are going to be tough” said Benjamin. “We finally won the Irving Blending & Packaging 250 in 2014 and our goal is to be the first team to win this prestigious race in back to back years.”

The Irving Blending & Packaging Pro Stock 250 is one of the richest short-track races in Canada. The winner pockets $15,000, there’s over $15,000 in Contingency Awards and the total purse tops $85,000. More than $110,000 in prize money is available to drivers during SpeedWeekend.

There are still a few campsites available for the weekend. Fans interested in booking one of those sites or purchasing advance SpeedWeekend event tickets are encouraged to call the Speedway 660 raceline at 506-454-7223.

“Speedway 660 is a family focused, fan-friendly facility and we want to thank our season ticket holders, our weekly fans, race teams, marketing partners as well as our employees and volunteers who have all helped us grow SpeedWeekend into a world-class, short-track racing event” said Roy. “With Irving Blending & Packaging now on board as our major marketing partner, we are able to make SpeedWeekend bigger and better than ever.”
