2016 Maritime Legends Championship on the Line Saturday September 15, 2016 Regional The Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour will see its 2016 champion crowned this Saturday at Scotia Speedworld. The R&D Performancenter 50 is the eighth round on the series, its third visit to the 3/10-mile oval this year, and the undercard for the Dartmouth Dodge 200 championship race for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour. Racing begins at 4pm. The Farrell’s Racing #48 team is on the cusp of their first championship on the mainland. The team based out of Conception Bay South, Newfoundland has had three drivers behind the wheel of their car this season, with Waylon Farrell (Conception Bay South, NL), Alex Pacheco (Kannapolis, NC) and Dylan Blenkhorn (Truro, NS) each driving the car over the first seven races of the year. Pacheco will take the wheel of the car one last time on Saturday in hopes of bringing the team home a championship. The second place spot in the standings has swapped following the seventh round of the series. Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB) has taken the runner-up spot in the standings, dispatching Craig MacDonald (Waverley, NS) to third overall by three points with just one race to go. MacDonald has officially clinched the Rookie of the Year Award on the series. The gap between the top two in points sits at 33, meaning Pacheco can clinch the championship for Farrell’s Racing with a top 15 finish on Saturday, regardless where Hall places in the R&D Performancenter 50. Adam Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines) sits comfortably in fourth spot in the standings. While he is only 20 points out of Hall for the second spot in the standings, he has a 51 point lead on fifth place driver Justin MacNeill (Bedford). Six points sit between MacNeill and Emily Meehan’s #75 car. With post-secondary education commitments, Meehan will have Scotia Speedworld Coors Light Truck driver Megan Parrott (Beaver Bank, NS) substituting and making her Legend car debut on Saturday. Rookie Shane Lively (Middle Sackville, NS) and Arnie Spinney (Coldbrook, NS) look quite safe for a top 10 finish, though with only six points between them heading into Saturday there could be a shift in position before the checkered flag falls. Not far behind the pair is Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport, NS), though he will have work to do as he sits 15 markers back from Spinney. The 10th spot in the standings sees three drivers tied. Reigning Canadian Masters champion Paul Goulden (Shelburne, NS) and Danny Harvey (Lantz, NS) own the last three CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series victories at Scotia Speedworld in a Legend car while Will Farrell (Conception Bay South, NL) will look to crack the top 10 in his first full touring series season. A number of Scotia Speedworld Legends drivers will also enter the R&D Performancenter 50 including Cy Harvey (Elmsdale, NS), Harry Breimer Jr. (Stewiacke, NS), Cole Tanner (Shubenacadie, NS), Joey Lawson (Porter’s Lake, NS) and Tylor Hawes (Porter’s Lake, NS). Hawes enters with the hot hand of the quintet with three top five finishes in the last three races at his home track.
